Finlays is Kenya’s largest agricultural export group employing over 21,000 people and annually exporting over 300 million stems of flowers, 7 million kilos of vegetables, 26 million kilos of black tea and 3 million kilos of tea extract.

The organisation is geographically located in Nairobi, Naivasha, Kericho, Mt. Kenya and Mombasa and works with 1,200 vegetable out growers and 10,000 tea out growers.

We need dynamic individuals with strong supervisory, planning & organizing skills, interpersonal and communication skills and a team player to fill the following vacant positions in our Kericho operations.

1. Workshop Foreman

The job holder is expected to
  • provide leadership and overall supervision in sections of the workshops including external work sites to ensure that work is being carried out effectively and efficiently;
  • assign jobs to section heads and artisans within the workshop;
  • keep and monitor a proper inventory of all tools, equipment and machinery used by the workshop personnel ;
  • distribute materials to artisans and ensure that they are being used efficiently;
  • order the right parts of machines for use by artisans;
  • ensure compliance to occupational health and safety requirements;
  • provide technical support to all customers;
  • keep records and generate reports as and when required;
  • assist the section management in areas of cost control e.g. overtime, materials and transport control.

Minimum Requirements
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum related work experience of 5 years in a busy similar set up.
  • Computer literate with hands on experience

2. Assistant Foreman - Electrical

The job holder is expected to
  • provide leadership and supervision of the various functional teams in the section;
  • plan for and implement electrical installations and projects as well as coordinate the day to day maintenance activities of the section;
  • ensure timely execution and completion of all jobs raised to electrical section;
  • monitor the quantities and quality of materials or spares raised for jobs as per approved estimates;
  • supervise electrical projects and ensure compliance with electrical standards and regulations;
  • observe and enforce health and safety procedures and requirements at the workplace;
  • implement the recommendations from electrical inspections and audits through preventive maintenance program and corrective action;
  • oversee the processes at motor rewinding shop for quality service and timely delivery including monitoring the testing procedures for compliance;
  • meet set operational targets as set in the ERP system.

Minimum Requirements
  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering (preferably Power Option).
  • 5 years relevant hands-on work experience in a manufacturing or project set up.
  • Computer Literacy with good exposure to ERP system.
  • Working knowledge of programmable logic controllers.
  • Basic ERC Electrician licence.

3. Powerline Supervisor

The job holder is expected to
  • supervise the electrical lines team;
  • prepare annual maintenance plan for power lines and transformers;
  • prepare cost estimates for new power line projects and extensions;
  • maintain and repair overhead power lines (HT and LT);
  • install new transformers at project sites;
  • maintain and repair faulty transformers;
  • attend to emergencies/breakdowns on power supply equipment;
  • order and stock materials and equipment for power lines;
  • implement recommendations of inspections and audits on power supply network;
  • maintain and keep custody of testing equipment for power lines;
  • observe and enforce health and safety procedures and requirements at the work place.

Minimum requirements
  • Craft certificate in electrical installation.
  • 4 year relevant experience, 2 of which must have been in construction and maintenance of HT power lines.

4. Electrical Supervisor (Projects)

The job holder is expected to
  • provide technical support in the execution of special projects and assignments and also work with the supervisory team to drive various new organization-wide project initiatives;
  • design, provide estimates and install special electrical projects;
  • supervise and lead teams in various electrical projects for flower farms and tea estates;
  • undertake electrical audits and inspections of major electrical installations as well as domestic installations, and make recommendations/process certification;
  • assist ICT Department to implement various infrastructure projects and maintenance, including fibre optic cables, etc.;
  • undertake repair and maintenance jobs of electrical switchgear of up to 33kv;
  • maintain and control various electrical tools/instruments/equipment and train team on usage;
  • install, repair and maintain VHF radios, T&A clocks and CCTV systems;
  • follow up on implementation of electrical projects by external contractors within the Company for compliance with standards;
  • observe and enforce health and safety procedures and requirements at the work place.

Minimum Requirements
  • Craft certificate in electrical installation.
  • 5 years relevant experience, 2 of which should be in busy project set up.
  • Working knowledge of ICT installation and telephony/AutoCAD.
  • Basic certification ERC licence.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of solar technologies and their applications.

5. Electrician

The job holder is expected to
  • undertake new installations and maintenance work in factories;
  • under take new electrical projects installation and modifications;
  • prepare cost estimates for new projects and modifications;
  • install various electrical machinery and plants;
  • repair and maintain electrical plants and equipment;
  • undertake repair and maintenance jobs at power houses and power lines;
  • attend to electrical emergencies and breakdowns as directed;
  • provide reinforcement to various black tea factory electricians;
  • conduct inspections and audits assignments; order materials for approved jobs;
  • observe and enforce health and safety procedures and requirements at the workplace.

Minimum Requirements
  • Craft certificate in electrical installation.
  • 3 year in relevant work experience, 2 of which should preferably be in busy manufacturing set up.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various 3 phase electrical circuits, plants and equipment.
  • Knowledge on plant instrumentation and PLCSs will be an added advantage

6. Instrumentation Technician

The job holder will
  • undertake new installations and maintenance work for Process Instrumentation in factories;
  • lead teams in installation of new instrumentation/electronics projects and modifications;
  • prepare cost estimates for new projects and modifications;
  • repair and maintain instruments on plants and equipment;
  • undertake repair and maintenance jobs at power houses;
  • attend to electrical/ instrumentation emergencies and breakdowns ;
  • provide reinforcement to electricians;
  • undertake inspections and audits assignments;
  • participate in health and safety initiatives/awareness in the work place;
  • order materials and spares for approved jobs;
  • observe and enforce health and safety procedures and requirements at the work place.

Minimum Requirements
  • Craft certificate in Instrumentation/Electronics.
  • 3 years relevant experience, 2 of which should preferably be in busy manufacturing set up.
  • Knowledge of drives and PLCSs.

7. Assistant Draughtsman

The job holder will
  • carry out detailed drawings and costings for various construction and mechanical projects;
  • prepare detailed architectural and engineering drawings for various company projects;
  • visit construction sites to collect measurements and dimensions as needed;
  • analyze building specifications, codes, space to create architectural design;
  • use CAD equipment and conventional drafting station to prepare drawings, charts and records;
  • develop electrical and structural drafts to incorporate into architectural drawings;
  • carry out cost estimates and prepare Bills of Quantities for various company projects;
  • carry surveys including setting out of buildings and other structures;
  • update company standard structures drawings and estimates;
  • supervise projects when called upon to do so;
  • observe and enforce health and safety procedures and requirements at the workplace.

Minimum Requirements
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering/Diploma in Building/Diploma in Construction
  • 5 years relevant experience.
  • Computer literate with hands on experience -AutoCAD proficiency being mandatory.
