ICAP of Columbia University is working in partnership with the Ministry of Health to strengthen HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment services at provincial and county health facilities.

This program is part of a US Government initiative against HIV in Kenya that receives funding from PEPFAR through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Applications are invited for the following positions:

Title: Senior Program Officer

Location: Kisumu with travel to ICAP sites in Nyanza

Overall Job Function: The Senior Program Officer is a member of the senior regional management team and oversees field programmatic activities and site support for efficient delivery of quality services.

Based in Kisumu, the position reports to the Regional Director, ICAP Nyanza and works in close collaboration with the Director of Programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To oversee the planning, initiation and implementation of HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment services at ICAP-supported facilities in the region
  • To provide technical support for the planning and implementation of TB/HIV activities at ICAP supported facilities
  • To provide technical support for the planning and implementation of provider-initiated counseling and testing activities at ICAP-supported facilities
  • To provide on-going supervision of ICAP-supported HIV care and treatment programs
  • To participate in training and mentorship of site facility staff
  • To participate in designing programs to assist in monitoring and evaluation and ensuring quality assurance of HIV/AIDS care and treatment programs
  • To liaise with Ministry of Health officials and other stakeholders in coordinating implementation of the program
  • To prepare budgets, work plans, reports and other technical papers

Requirements:
  • Degree in Medicine, MPH, or an advanced relevant degree
  • 5 years of experience managing donor-funded health and/or HIV programs in the public sector


Study Coordinator - ARTIC Cohort Study

Location: Nyanza with travel to ICAP sites in Nyanza

Overall Job Function:

The Study Coordinator will supervise the day-to-day operations of a Cohort study for HIV-infected persons who are initiated antiretroviral therapy (ART) at health facilities in Nyanza.

He/She will ensure smooth implementation and high quality research under the direction of the ICAP Director of Research and M&E.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To participate in the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to be used in the study.
  • To develop training materials and oversee the training of study staff comprising of site coordinators, research assistants, data entry clerks and data manager.
  • To oversee the implementation of the research study through provision of direct supervision and mentorship to the research staff.
  • To develop and oversee the implementation of quality control/quality improvement measures at all levels of study implementation.
  • To liaise with the hospital management teams and facility staff in the study facilities and provide necessary updates on the study to these teams.
  • To prepare weekly progress reports and disseminate to investigators and annual reports for the funders.
  • To manage the budgets and expenditures including daily management of site related costs.
  • To conduct other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, International Health, or related discipline in clinical medicine with over five years’ experience in management and coordination of clinical research or cohort studies.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Excellent knowledge of Micro soft office packages is essential especially power point, excel.

Data Manager – ARTIC Cohort Study

Location: Kisumu

Overall Job Function:

The successful applicant will be responsible for supervising staff performing data entry, cleaning and storage of a study data to produce clean, complete final data sets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To support collection and entry of study data
  • To clean study data
  • To supervise and track flow of data forms from facilities to study office and organization of paper records within office
  • To ensure completeness, accuracy and consistency of the data
  • To produce monthly datasets and written report describing data integrity
  • Assure that electronic and paper records are handled according to international standards for data security and confidentiality

Requirements
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in computer studies, statistics, epidemiology or mathematics
  • At least 2 years relevant experience and advance skills in MS Access application development & programming skills; EpiInfo, SPSS; Data quality assurance; MS Office Familiarity with database management system and principles
  • Familiarity with data coding of SOP and coding dictionaries;

Research Assistant – ARTIC Cohort Study

Location: Allocated sites in Nyanza

Overall Job Function:

The Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting the day to day study activities at the site under the supervision of the Study Coordinator

Specific Responsibilities
  • To obtain consent from potential study participants.
  • To obtain consent and administer questionnaires to study participants.
  • To monitor participants recruitment and retention and oversee follow ups and participant tracking activities.
  • To ensure proper storage of study materials e.g. participant’s logs, study folders, study questionnaires, consent forms.
  • To carry out on-site quality control for data collection.
  • To assist in setting up project materials at the beginning of the day and completing the necessary activities at the end of the day.

Qualifications
  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Laboratory or Bachelors degree in life sciences.
  • Research experience in a HIV setting administering questionnaires to patients.
  • Understands/speaks and writes Dhluo is an added advantage.
  • Computer literate.
