Regional Water, Sanitation
& Hygiene (WASH) Advisor
Contract
Type: Level C1; Global – Open ended, fully accompanied by recognised family
members.
Based in
Nairobi, Kenya
Oxfam, one
of the world’s leading humanitarian agencies, continues to fight to end poverty
and suffering through combining emergency response work, long-term development
programmes and campaigning for lasting change. Oxfam works in rural and urban
areas, in camps for refugees and internally-displaced persons, and amongst host
communities
The Horn,
East, and Central Africa (HECA) Region is the largest region within Oxfam,
covering 8 countries, including Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, Democratic
Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and Uganda.
The
Regional Centre is based in Nairobi and is mandated to provide leadership in
prioritising a preventative approach to public health, improving WASH
conditions and consequentially addressing poverty reduction and quality of
life, in addition to its disaster response mandate.
Be challenged
You will
promote public health innovation and learning right across the region, building
the technical capacity of our country teams and partners to design and
implement quality water and sanitation interventions.
We’ll
expect you to take the lead on long-term strategic thinking and operational
planning. And when a disaster strikes, you’ll make sure that we’re ready for it
- and that we have all the right kind of public health initiatives in place.
Be involved
As well as
a degree in water & sanitation or engineering (or the equivalent in
technical knowledge), you’ll have a strong engineering background and, more
specifically, possess significant practical experience of water and sanitation
programming in developing countries.
Experience
of working in complex emergency situations is important too.
We’ll also
be looking for a background in integrated public health programming with an
emphasis on engineering and a proven understanding of health promotion
approaches and methodologies.
Be Oxfam
A simple,
inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam.
There’s
enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live
in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. It’s not their problem. It’s ours too.
And with
the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. Thousands of Oxfam
employees already commit their time and talents to our humanitarian and
long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
