Our client, a leading microfinance institution, is looking to hire a CEO.

The Purpose of the Job is to establish our client as the microfinance provider of choice. Lead the Institution in its strategy, vision and culture, so as to provide the best possible services to its customers.

The CEO will develop and deliver the strategy and vision by providing the requisite leadership, and by building the culture necessary for the provision of its services.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Networking: Building a strong team across the board and leading from the front to establish a strong corporate culture that permeates across the board and ensuring high standards of performance and successful realization of agreed upon objectives.
  • Strategic Planning: Developing and successfully implementing the long term strategic vision and strategic plan for the institution and ensuring long term institutional goals are clearly articulated and fully realized
  • Business Banking: Developing and implementing a strong business model for ensuring the high quality growth of both assets and liabilities. Providing strategic and ongoing oversight to ensure the highest standards of credit management and the timely realization of growth targets
  • Credit Management: Ensuring the timely management of portfolio quality related matters, regularly analyzing all credit related information, analyzing trends and developing and implementing sound credit management policies and procedures at all levels and implementing a strong credit culture.
  • Create, develop and manage banking based service delivery channels e.g. Cash Sites; card based products, etc and ensure their optimal contribution to banks profitability.
  • Managing mainstream retail banking, branch set-up, product development, customer acquisition, customer service
  • Formulating, implementing, managing and coordinating processes / operations in the company to maximize operational health and continued clients stability in an efficient manner where risks are well controlled.
  • Policies: Designing, developing and delivering sound and effective management, HR, IT, Operational and Financial policies and approving all policy manual related to the above, commissioning and overseeing the review of policies on an ongoing basis and approving the new policies resulting from these reviews through constant board interaction.
  • Regulatory Oversight: Ensuring all regulatory requirements as per the Banking Industry Regulatory framework are completed on time. For instance compliance with CBK
  • Risk Management: Undertaking an institutional risk assessment on a quarterly identifying key gaps in the overall institutional framework and proposing recommendations.
  • IT Management /Technology, ACDs, Operations: Overseeing the design, development and deployment of a complete business solution deploying the best practices in the IT industry in the light of the growing needs of the organization
  • Oversees the operations of the Company and executing business plans
  • Responsible for the provision of support, advice and guidance to the branch network regarding all areas of operations.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration
  • Masters in Business with a concentration in Finance is an added advantage
  • At least 6 years Broad based & Managerial banking experience
  • Prior microfinance experience would be preferable.
  • High analytical and problem solving ability gained through professional & practical experience.
  • Ability to work in a turbulent and un-predictable environment where responding and managing change is essential.
  • Sound leadership, decision making and management abilities.
  • Project management skills ranging from project planning to implementation.
  • HR experience would be really valuable/Technology related understanding would also help
