The Job

We are in the process of strengthening our staff capacity in the laboratory department and are seeking to recruit qualified, self-motivated and result-oriented Senior Laboratory Supervisor.

Based at the JKIA Depot and reporting to the Technical & Innovations Manager, the overall responsibility of this position will be to ensure that authorized laboratory analysis of samples are carried out within the scope of operations.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Establishing, maintaining and improving processes for the quality management system and ensuring continued accreditation of the laboratory.
  • Establishing and maintaining standards of the laboratory facility, methods, equipment and personnel by specifying and/or approving all methodologies used and assigning competent personnel to complete tests. Also, adjusting workloads, and providing training opportunities for laboratory staff to facilitate completion of assigned tasks in a safe work environment consistent with test requirements and personnel capabilities.
  • Implementing good laboratory practices by providing instruction and training as needed, developing work plans and procedures, and requiring that these be followed in all day-to-day operations while maintaining cost effective operations.
  • Coordinating internal audits of the laboratory in accordance with requirements of the quality management system.
  • Identifying the occurrence of departures from the management system or procedures for performing tests and initiating actions to prevent or minimize such departures.
  • Maintenance, analysis and updating statistical data and/or control charts to evaluate the effectiveness of health/hygiene-based measures put in place to improve operations.
  • Reporting to top management on the performances of the management system and any need for improvement.
  • Promotion of customer requirements pertaining to microbiological testing throughout the company.
Requirements:

  • Must have Diploma in Laboratory Technology as a minimum requirement or a Bachelors Degree.
  • Must have O level education or its equivalent.
  • Must have done Statistics
  • Must have at least 8 years experience preferably in a busy laboratory.
  • Must have at least two years experience in a senior position.
  • Should meet the requirements for the Kenya Clinical Laboratory Technologist Licensure.
  • Must be a member of Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
  • Must be a member of Kenya Microbiology Association.
  • Should be good at statistical data analysis.
  • Should be capable of using common statistical packages.
  • Should have training in Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Must be able to work under pressure and achieve excellent results.
  • Must have current certificate of good conduct.
