WWF - The
global conservation organization, Kenya Country Office (KCO), is seeking to
recruit:
Project Officer - Social
Development
To be based
in Mokowe, Lamu, Kenya
ensure that
the WWF Coastal Kenya Programme, Boni-Dodori Sustainable Forest Management
Project is effectively implemented to the highest standards and in line with
the approved project document;
work
closely with other WWF project staff and local stakeholders to ensure alignment
with other project budgets and activities in Boni-Dodori;
ensures
that the projects technical standards, terms and conditions and reporting
requirements are met;
establishes/maintains
/strengthens the institutional linkages already established, and yet to be
established, with communities at the project site level and support
conservation group activities and self-help projects aimed at alleviating
poverty.
The applicant must possess
- at least a university degree in social or community development and other related areas;
- at least 4 years working experience in community/social development with specific background and experience in socio economic aspects in the coastal region;
- excellent oral and written communications skills in English as well as an excellent Kiswahili speaker and knowledge and experience of working with local cultures and communities will be essential;
- demonstrated fundraising and resource mobilization ability while project implementation and management experience will be an added advantage;
- Must have a good understanding of conservation initiatives at local and national level;
- addressing socio-economic issues and developing and implementing community development plans;
- have a working knowledge of financial management, especially of project budgeting and tracking and reporting of expenditure;
- ability to work under tight deadlines, and high pressure situations;
- excellent inter-personal skills, with the ability to network and to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels, both internally and with local communities, government agencies, the not-for-profit sector and the scientific community;
- adherence to WWF’s values, which are: Optimistic, Engaging, Determined and Knowledgeable.
