General Manager - Guarding

Job Profile

Our client is a multinational security organization head -quartered in Nairobi, Kenya and offers a broad range of security services throughout Africa.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the General Manager- Guarding  is responsible for directing manned / Guarding Security services operations in Nairobi and the Regions.

Scope of the Role:

  • Provides business leadership and ensures client service delivery.
  • Responsible for security guards discipline and turnout.
  • Effective clients retention, profitability of the portfolio (with P&L responsibility), and for growing the business year over year.
  • Strategic leadership to the operations team and branch management.
  • Effective management of the relationship between actual results, budgets and forecasts.
  • Excellent initiatives on cost saving model and controls.
  • Responsibility for Gross Margin Management including direct Wage control, overheads control, and contract profitability
  • Minimal assignment incidences and claims against the Company. 

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contribute to development guarding business strategy and managing implementation of strategy.
  • Manage all disciplinary matters and ensure they are conducted in compliance with Company policies and procedures. Acts as lead investigator for all incidences
  • Oversight to manned security services through coaching operational management across the region
  • Develop and roll out Operational KPIs to the branches ensuring they are regularly reviewed
  • Develop and share examples of best practice, ensuring effective management and auditing of operational processes to ensure adherence to standards
  • Define supervisory intervention and standards.
  • Define training standards for front line staff and supervising managers.
  • Develop and implement a standard customer satisfaction measurement methodology.
  • Take leading role in Identifying new business opportunities and organic growth for existing customers.
  • Analyze operational and financial indicators to continuously improve guarding business performance.
  • Meets regularly with customers for status updates and addresses any actual or potential problems; negotiates client contracts; supports client start-ups; carries out security planning, assessments and surveys; reviews and updates post orders.
  • Arrange and conduct meetings with new and existing business prospects and upsell upcoming company products
  • Effective management of staff within operational business unit and ensure that performance assessments of all employees are conducted, and corrective action implemented where necessary.
  • Provide a leading role security surveys and risk assessments exercises.
  • Prepares and presents the Guarding Monthly Management Report to the Managing Director

Requirements
  • University degree in social sciences, business discipline or any other related course
  • At least 7yrs experience in the private security business at a Senior Level.
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good client relationship nurturing skills.
  • Experience and proven record of delivery of quality security services
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen. P+L responsibility essential
  • Experience in negotiating large contractual agreements in price/cost sensitive situations.
  • Strong persuasive interpersonal skills
  • Experience of leading a multi-disciplined service team is essential
  • Pragmatic and able to focus operationally and relate to and develop the strategic plans of the organization
  • Strong leader and team motivator, team management experience.
  • Experienced negotiator
  • Relationship building and networking skills
  • The ability to work under pressure and manage a range of diverse responsibilities
  • Computer literate
