Summary
 
Our client is one of the largest Steel Manufacturers and Hardware Materials Suppliers in the country, having been in the market for more than Forty One (41 years). 

They are looking to recruit a Sales Associate to join their team.

The job holder is responsible for maintaining outstanding customer service as per company standards, generating sales, merchandising, and safeguarding company assets and to ensure risks are kept to a minimum for the company.

The position reports to the Sales Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide the Branch Manager with information for strategy development.
  • To build and maintain a portfolio of customers, ensure consistent interaction with them on a timely basis.
  • To offer support, guidance and feedback on potential purchases, based on product knowledge.
  • Assist in floor moves, merchandising, display maintenance and housekeeping, processing & replenishing merchandise and monitoring floor stock.
  • To have complete and thorough understanding of the product ranges carried to be able to communicate effectively to and aid customers in locating the merchandise.
  • Visiting customers on a regular basis to assess product off take, pricing and risk.
  • Assist in completing product price changes.
  • Keeping track of customer credit limits and follow up of customer’s timely payments and to report to management any debtors that seem not to be paying.
  • Keeping all company information, including sales figures, strictly confidential.
  • Completing in an honest and accurate ways, all daily and weekly checklists, paperwork and related company documentation.
  • Assisting in sourcing material and ability to see trading opportunities and communicate the same to management.
  • Participate in year-end inventory and cycle counts.
  • Complete understanding of pricing and proposal models.
  • Maximizes all opportunities in the process of closing a sale, resulting in the taking of market share from larger competitors leading to increased sales turnover and margin for the company.
  • Develops a database of qualified leads through referrals, telephone canvassing, face to face cold calling on business owners, direct mail, email, and networking.
  • Maintains accurate records of all sales and prospecting activities, including sales calls, presentations, closed sales, and follow-up activities within their assigned territory, including the use of Microsoft Outlook to maintain accurate records to maximize territory potential.
  • Ensure that each customer receives outstanding service by providing a friendly environment, which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining solid product knowledge and all other aspects of customer service.
  • Maintain an awareness of all promotions and advertisements.
  • Maintain professional internal and external relationships that meet company core values.
  • Proactively establish and maintain effective working team relationships with all support departments.
  • Maintain personal ability in, and appropriate use of all relevant ICT and other systems within the sales and marketing function.
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes.
  • Any other tasks as assigned by the management
Minimum Qualifications and experience
  • University Degree in a business related field.
  • Sales & Marketing Certification, proficiency in Microsoft office packages.
  • 3 years of relevant product & Industry knowledge / experience & supplier relationship management. 
  • FMCG experience preferred.
  • Experience in Oracle a plus.
