Program Description: The Research Care and Training Program (RCTP), is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and University of Washington (UW). 

RCTP leads the Family AIDS Care and Education Services (FACES) program, a comprehensive HIV prevention, care and treatment program working in over 100 clinics in Nyanza Province, Kenya.
 

RCTP is seeking motivated individuals to fill the following vacancies for integrated Community Case Management of pneumonia, Malaria, diarrhea in Children under 5 years project.
 
Job Title: Driver (2 Positions 1 in Rachuonvo, and 1 in Kisumu)
 
Reports to: Finance and Administration Officer
 
Duration: 18 Months, starting July 1, 2013

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely drive the vehicles as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance to the road Traffic Act
  • Maintain Vehicle Cleanliness at all times.
  • Ensure that the Vehicle Work Tickets are maintained and can be easily availed as and when required
  • Ensure that the vehicles’ Mechanical and Electrical systems are well maintained at all times, and report any faults immediately they are noticed for corrective action to be undertaken.
Education and Qualifications
  • Valid Driving License class BCE
  • Valid PSV License
  • Current Certificate of Good conduct
  • At least Form Four Certificate with Mean Grade of C- ( Minus)
  • At least Three years proven experience as a driver on highways.
Skills and Specifications
  • Basic Automotive Mechanical skills and sound knowledge about vehicles.
  • Ability to provide quick solutions to problems.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good Interpersonal relations.
  • Capable of working for long hours and sometimes at odd situations.

Job Title: Research Assistant / Enumerator (36 Positions)
 
Reports to: Sub County Project Officers
 
Duty Station: Homa Bay, Rachuonyo North, Rachuonyo South, Suba, Mbita, Ndhiwa
 
Duration: 1 Month, starting Mid July, 2013

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Making initial contacts with potential study subjects and, introducing the study to them,
  • Establishing rapport and facilitating community entry to the other members of the research team.
  • Conducting in-depth interviews with the participants;
  • Preparing research field notes for review by members of the research team;
  • Serve as language interpreter
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by management.
Requirements:
  • Diploma in Community Health, Social Work, Nursing, Clinical medicine or any other related field. Degree holders in the related fields are also encouraged to apply.
  • Post-qualification experience in conducting research will be an advantage
  • Must be keen and attentive to details and have ability to follow instructions and procedures properly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication required.
  • Fluency of Dholuo language is mandatory
  • Must be non-judgmental and flexible to mix with all cadres of people.
  • Applicants must be resident in the different districts in which the study will be conducted and should indicate the district in which they are to work in.
  • Computer Literacy is required.

Job Title: Field Interviewer / VCT Counselor
 
Reports to: Study Coordinator
 
Duty Station: Kisumu
 
Duration: 6 Months, starting July 1 , 2013

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect GPS data in a market setting and record data on a computer tablet
  • Recruit and obtain informed consent from study subjects
  • Manage calendar of appointments under supervision of study coordinator
  • Deliver reminders of appointment times to study participants
  • Administer surveys, take vital signs
  • Perform HIV counseling and testing as per current Kenyan protocol
  • Trace study participants
  • Filing, maintaining study charts
  • Uploading data on a daily basis under supervision of study coordinator
  • Accurate and prompt study documentation
  • Other duties as assigned
Key Requirements:
 
Education:
  • University degree in anthropology, sociology, geography, psychology OR a Diploma in Community Health, Social Work, Nursing or Clinical Medicine with at least 2 years work experience in health research.
  • Certificate in HIV test counseling
  • Certificate in Counseling
Experience:
  • Experience with research preferred
  • Working experience within an HIV care setting preferred
  • Familiarity with computers
Other skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fluent spoken English, Dholuo, and Kiswahili required
