Impact Research and Development Organization

Impact Research and Development Organization (IRDO) is a national NGO based in Kisumu. 

Its principal mandate is to design,  implement  and  evaluate  HIV/AIDS  research  and  intervention  programs  that  improve  the  health  status  of individuals and local communities. 

We are looking for qualified and experienced personnel to fill in the following positions in the Southern Nyanza Region (Rachuonyo North, Rachuonyo North, Suba, Homabay, Nyamira, Mbita, Ndhiwa and Kisii Central districts), Kenya. 

Successful candidates will be based in either of the districts.
 
Field Officers  

(3 Positions) – Homabay, Suba & Oyugis

Job Summary

To provide oversight for and coordinate Community Based HIV care program through Community Health Strategy and community outreaches.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Reporting to the Project Coordinator about implementation of the Community HIV Based Care (CHBC) and Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) program.
  • Develop, update and oversee the implementation of Community Health Workers Work Plans/Action Plans.
  • Ensure that program activities including community outreaches, review meetings, home visits and trainings are carried out according to the Global Fund/Kenya Red Cross guidelines and with due diligence.
  • Ensure that correct information is relayed to beneficiaries, District Health Management Teams (DHMT) and other stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a liaison person between IRDO, beneficiaries, DHMTs and the general community in dispensing information and activity reports.
  • Prepare and submit progress reports at required intervals; represent IRDO at meetings and conferences.
  • Regularly report to the Project Coordinator as and when required.
Minimum Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Must have a Diploma in Social Work, Community Development or related field.
  • Must have at least 2 years experience coordinating Community based HIV intervention programs, preferably in a similar  project/related project; must have experience with staff supervision. Knowledge and experience  of implementing Community Health Strategy is added advantage
  • Must be honest; and well organized.
  • Must be pleasant, have good communication skills and willing to work under pressure.
Other competencies:   
  • Ability to multi-task; 
  • excellent writing and presentation skills; 
  • excellent communication skills and teamwork; 
  • able to travel long distances; 
  • can work long hours, including weekends and public holidays when necessary; 
  • proficient in Microsoft Office packages.
Clinical Officers  

( 1 Position) -  Kisii Central

Job Summary: 

Provide the Minimum Package of Clinical services at the Wellness Centre and during community outreaches targeting Key Populations as per the set National Guidelines/standards.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Shall serve as the Wellness Centre Coordinator
  • Ensure excellent standards and quality of clinical care is provided to all clients and effective referrals and linkages made with tertiary health facilities.
  • Diagnose and institute effective clinical procedures which are consistent with National guidelines and observe legal and statutory requirements in all situations.
  • Mentor and supervise the other members of the clinical team
  • Ensure that all clients’ rights to access services are adhered to at the centre.
  • Ensure that the health care services are friendly, responsive to the needs and offered at the convenient time of
  • Key Populations and their clients.
  • Coordinate integration of health services with peer outreaches.
  • Ensure that correct information is relayed to beneficiaries, DHMTs and other stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Ensure correct, confidential and timely updating of clients data/ records.
  • Prepare and submit progress reports at required intervals.
  • Reporting to the Project Coordinator with regular supervision from the clinical Manager. Regularly report to the
  • Project Coordinator as and when required.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine.
  • Registered with the Clinical Officer’s Council of Kenya.
  • Must have at least one year’s experience in a busy health facility.
  • Should have training and practical experience in Key Populations Intervention.
  • Knowledge on HIV/AIDS care and treatment added advantage.
  • Ability to diagnose and treat Sexually Transmitted Infections.
  • Must  be  pleasant,  have  good  communication  and  leadership  skills;  and  willing  to  work  in  challenging environments and under pressure.
  • Computer literacy is essential.
Nursing Officers 

( 2 Positions) -  Kisii Central

Job Summary

Provide or assist in the provision of Minimum Package of Clinical services at the Wellness Centre and during community outreaches targeting Key Populations as per the set National Guidelines/standards.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Reporting to the Wellness Centre Coordinator
  • Assess clients and establish health care needs as necessary.
  • Diagnose simple common health conditions, prescribe, and administer treatment.
  • Provide appropriate healthcare service; e.g. administration of treatment, dispensing drugs, etc.
  • Provide health education and counseling to clients on identified health problems and socio-economic issues related to their health.
  • Evaluate healthcare outcomes to clients and write individualized report.
  • Maintain confidential records on clients personal and health condition/care data.
  • Keep clinical environment tidy and safe.
  • Ensure efficiency and safety of assigned nursing commodities.
  • Ensure that all clients’ rights to access services are adhered to at the centre.
  • Ensure that the health care services are friendly, responsive to the needs and offered at the convenient time of
  • Key Populations and their clients.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Diploma in Registered Nursing from a recognized nursing training institution and in possession of a registration certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Is in good professional standing with the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Must have at least one year’s experience in a busy health facility.
  • Should have training and practical experience in Key Populations Intervention.
  • Knowledge on HIV/AIDS care and treatment added advantage.
  • Ability to diagnose and treat Sexually Transmitted Infections.
  • Must be pleasant, have good communication skills and willing to work in challenging environments and under pressure.
Drug and Substance Abuse Counselor 

(1 Position) - Kisii Central

Job Summary:  

Provide addiction counseling and treatment and HTC services to clients at the Wellness Centre and during community outreaches

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Offer HIV Testing and Counseling services to all clients and provide effective referrals when applicable.
  • Offer addiction counseling to all drug and substance abusing clients and refer them for group therapy sessions and family meetings.
  • Conduct family meetings to our clients together with their significant others
  • Create awareness on drug and substance abuse
  • Ensure clients information/data are kept safe and confidential
Minimum requirements
  • Must have VCT  training from NASCOP recognized institutions
  • Must have certificate in Drugs and Substance Abuse from a recognized institution
  • At least 1 -2 years experience in a similar position in a busy health set up
  • Should have training and practical experience in Key Populations Intervention.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
HTC Counselor 

(1 Position) - Kisii Central

Job Summary: 

Provide HTC services to clients at the Wellness Centre and during community outreaches

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Offer HIV/AIDS Testing and Counseling services to all clients and provide effective referrals when applicable.
  • Provide Provider initiated testing and counseling to clients’ and family members
  • Ensure quality HTC services are provided to clients as per the NASCOP standards.
  • Ensure proper linkages of clients accessing HTC services
  • Work with Peer Educators to ensure targets are met
  • Ensure clients information/data are kept safe and confidential
  • Submit duly filled data forms to the Wellness Centre Coordinator
  • Perform any other duty as assigned by immediate supervisor
Minimum requirements
  • Diploma in counseling and VCT, PITC, and Couple Counseling and MARPs training from NASCOP accredited institutions.
  • 1 year experience in a similar position in a busy medical facility
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Data Clerks  

(2 Positions) – Kisii Central & Homabay

Job Summary;  

Reporting to Data Officer, the successful candidate will perform data entry and management including data cleaning, and archiving to support the implementation of HIV prevention program activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Co-ordinate the collection of data from activity sites.
  • Review, analyze, and validate activities data to ensure consistency, integrity and accuracy based on project specific guidelines.
  • Secure all data collected from the respective field stations
  • Perform timely entry of data into project databases, and maintain data accuracy through review of case report forms for completeness and consistency.
  • Maintain documentation based on Global Fund/Kenya Red Cross guidelines to assist in standardizing data management procedures.
Qualifications and competencies
  • Diploma in Computer Science or Information Technology.
  • At least 1 year experience in data entry in a busy organization.
  • Sound knowledge of Ms. Word, Ms. Access, Ms. Excel, and SPSS or its equivalent.
  • Strong  ability  to  co-ordinate,  prioritize  and  organize  workload;  work  under  pressure  with  minimal supervision.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to meet targets within specified timeframes.
  • Willingness to travel within the project area
Outreach Worker/Social Mobilizer 

(1 Position) - Kisii Central

Job Summary: 

To coordinate and mobilize Key Populations activities at the Wellness Centre and Hotspots through the peer led education model and during community outreaches /targeted forums.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Develop, update and oversee the implementation of Peer Educators Work Plans/Action Plans.
  • Ensure that program activities including community outreaches, peer review meetings, one on one sessions and trainings are carried out according to the Global Fund/Kenya Red Cross guidelines and with due diligence and targets met.
  • Ensure that correct information is relayed to beneficiaries, DHMTs and other stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and submit progress reports at required intervals; and represent IRDO at relevant meetings.
  • Regularly report to the Project Coordinator as and when required.
Minimum Qualifications and Competencies:
