Position: Behaviour Change Communications Program 

(Field Assistant level-Mutiple positions)

Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is a U.S. non-profit organization dedicated to creating, evaluating, and replicating innovative solutions to poverty and policy problems worldwide. 

IPA’s WASH Benefits project aims to evaluate the impacts of water, sanitation, hygiene and nutrition interventions, in combination and separately, in Bungoma and Kakamega counties. 

IPA’s WASH Benefits Project seeks Behaviour Change Communications Program Field Staff who will lead community meetings and Supervise promoters. . 

The main duty/duties for the Behaviour change Program field staff will be to Lead Community meetings where IPA and the promoters will be introduced to the Community and study particiants, supervise the promoters as they motivate behavior change in the study compounds and villages where WASH Benefits is working. 

The Field staff will be based in the either Kakamega or Bungoma, and the position will require travel in Western region. 


The Behaviour Change Communications Field Staff will work closely with managers and other field staff to perform a variety of tasks including, but not limited to the following:
  • Work with one other field staff to lead community meetings to introduce IPA and a promoter to the community and study respondents.
  • Supervise promoters as they deliver lessons to study to study participants
  • Effectively communicate to the community about randomization and respondent selection criteria
  • Share challenges and discuss solutions with relevant supervisors
  • Incorporate and implement feedback from managers in a timely manner
  • Assist with preparation for promoter supervision and/or community meetings, including developing materials, translating English materials to Swahili, and compiling materials to be used during promoter supervision and community meetings.
Qualifications and Experience: Required
  • Diploma or degree in communications, social sciences, community health and development, or other related field
  • One year previous experience leading community trainings and promoter supervision.
  • Knowledge of behavior change communication
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify information and communicate it to a diverse audience
  • Demonstrated positive attitude and commitment to work
  • Well organized, detail-oriented 
  • Strong oral and communications skills in both English and Kiswahili.
  • Experience working with community health promoters 
  • Previous experience leading community meetings
  • Out-going, engaging, energetic and patient personality 
  • Previous experience related to water, sanitation, hygiene and/or nutrition 
  • Ability to communicate in Luhya
