Introduction


This position exists to assist with the administration of the payroll for IRS, NRS, Students, and Casuals at ILRI.

Minimum Requirements
  • CPA K, with undergraduate degree in an accounting field;
  • Training in PAYE administration;
  • 3 years’ experience in finance with progressive experience in computerized payroll administration and preparation ;
  • Good knowledge and understanding of local labour laws would be an added advantage;
  • Ability to multi-task in dealing with several different issues at a time;
  • Ability to work under high pressure, meet deadlines, monitor and follow-up on pending matters under minimum supervision;
  • Ability to communicate fluently in writing and verbally in English.

The Position

This position exists to assist with the administration of the payroll for IRS, NRS, Students, and Casuals at ILRI.

Key responsibilities
  • Preparation of payrolls for IRS, NRS, Students, Casuals;
  • Management of overtime system;
  • Effecting changes to payroll- on new employees, overtime, salary changes to basic pay,  education, security and housing  allowances;
  • Effecting deductions from payroll – statutory deductions, car hire, telephone, advances, bank loans, cooperative loans, insurances, pensions, medical excesses, etc.
  • Computing terminal dues and pensions payable on separation;
  • Pass provision entries for home leave allowances, staff development fund, catastrophic insurance, staff insurances and Severance pay;
  • Preparation of payment requests for payroll transactions. Preparation and input of salary journal;
  • Reconciliation of payroll related control accounts. Overall month to month reconciliation of payrolls;
  • Monthly update of the staff time on ilrinet and cost allocation system.

Mechanical & Refrigeration Engineering Supervisor

Introduction

This position exists to Plan and supervise the mechanical and refrigeration in-house and outsourced services in order to provide the institute with optimum service, safely, on time and at a reasonable cost.

Minimum Requirements
  • BSc. Mechanical Engineering – Air-conditioning and Refrigeration option.
  • Five years’ experience with two years Hands on Experience in a busy Mechanical and Air-conditioning related operation, plant, factory and / or workshop.
  • Ability to supervise multiple and / or complex maintenance issues, projects, performance management, people management, effective communication, change management.
  • Ability to work under high pressure, meet deadlines, monitor and follow-up on pending matters under minimum supervision;

The Position

Key responsibilities
  • Ensuring proper maintenance and repair of all mechanical, refrigeration, air conditioners, and ventilation equipment in the institute.
  • Conducting daily inspection and maintaining records (on computer) of all mechanical equipment as well as their maintenance and service manuals.
  • Laying down and implementing a planned preventive maintenance schedule for all mechanical equipment, and ensuring that this schedule is adhered to within 80% of the plan.
  • Supervising job progress and quality of work on all mechanical, refrigeration, air conditioner and ventilation equipment in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Requesting materials and spares for mechanical equipment.  Control of their spares inventory in the engineering stores and ensuring that the right quality spares are requested and received.
  • Ensuring that engineering operating standards and safety are maintained in the mechanical and refrigeration workshop as well as the boiler and generator house.
  • Arranging duty roster and following up standby engineers during holidays and weekends for emergencies that may arise during this period. Making sure any issues arising are passed to the relevant supervisors.
  • Ensuring that fire fighting equipment, lifting tackles, pressure and steam vessels are fully serviced and inspected as per the statutory government inspection requirements.
  • Designing and installation of in house mechanical, refrigeration, and ventilation installation jobs. Compiling and forwarding to the contracts officer capital projects terms of reference.
  • Supervising, monitoring and commissioning of new mechanical, refrigeration, air conditioners and ventilation equipment being newly installed by external contractors ensuring that the international laws and standards are observed.
  • Supervise external service providers providing Mechanical services and carrying out works within ILRI
  • Performance management of sections staff
  • Provide work progress status to clients and departments helpdesk

  • A BA/BSc degree in computer science, information systems, mathematics and statistics or other relevant discipline;
  • A minimum of 2 years relevant work experience, preferably in applied agricultural research;

The Position
The overall purpose of these positions is to support field research activities of Humidtropics, Strategic
Research Theme 1 (Systems Analysis & Synthesis). 

This position will be part of the Integrated Sciences Program – Livestock Science and the Environment.

Key responsibilities
  • Assisting the Humidtropics data systems manager in the programming of data collection tools;
  • Training enumerators in the use of data collection tools for large scale household surveys and supervising their use in the field;
  • Responsible for specific activities in the whole data processing and quality assurance process, linking to the data systems manager and overall integrated database system;
  • Producing simple summaries and analysis to support the analytical work of research staff in the region, including the generation of appropriate monitoring & evaluation indicators;
  • Maintain the hardware systems used for data collection (e.g. netbooks, PDA’s, GPS) and associated security of the electronic files;

The post holder will maintain, update and provide ILRI spatial data and associated metadata to ILRI projects and partners.

  • Management, sharing and exchange of fully documented spatial data with standard metadata within ILRI and to collaborating partners;

  • Advice management on procurement of spare parts and new machines.

  • Assess staff skills gaps and recommend them for training which is financed by management.
  • Train junior staff and students on attachment.
