Field Service Engineer-Processing

Job Summary


Installation, commission, automation, after sales service of processing modules/equipment by working directly with customers on maximizing system performance of all processing equipment installed base through our Technical Sales and Services (TS&S) portfolio offerings which include equipment servicing, fault finding, customer training, upgrades including automation upgrades, and optimization of installed base. 

Seeking out and selling service and spares through face to face contact with customers.

Role And Responsibilities

R1 Installation of Equipment (10%)
  • Performs installation, including supervision of mechanical and electrical subcontractors at customer site, assembly of processing modules and key components according to design drawings and equipment specifications.
  • Be part of project team comprising of customer’s engineering staff and subcontractors at site.
R2 Commissioning & Testing of equipment (20%)
  • Pretesting of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and automation systems.
  • Mechanical and automation commissioning of processing modules and Key components.
  • Water testing and checks.
  • Commissioning of units on process fluids, setting up parameters and interfacing checks with upstream and downstream equipment (automation integration).
  • Testing of machines and system performance under process conditions, against contractual specifications.
  • Obtaining commissioning and handover certificate from the customer.
R3 Training (10%)
  • Training of customer operators on the correct operation of processing modules and lines
  • Training of customer maintenance staff on the preventive and corrective maintenance of processing systems.
  • Inducts newly employed Engineers to their work.
R4 Automation (10%)
  • Customization and modification of control systems, including instrumentation, PLC automation software, human- machine interface software and graphics, data logging and error messaging
  • Interfacing with filling machines and other equipment.
R5 servicing of Installed base (10%)
  • Servicing of installed base for processing equipment and systems, including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and automation aspects.
R6 Trouble shooting and Optimization (10%)
  • Fault finding, trouble shooting and optimization of customer processing plant and equipment.
  • This includes mechanical, automation and process parameters such as flow, temperature, pressure among others.
  • Auditing of equipment performance and condition and make necessary recommendations to be able to start-up the machines.
R7 Upgrades (10%)
  • Upgrading of equipment and systems to extend life and improve operational performance, mechanical, instrumentation and automation aspects of the installed base.
R8 Technical sales (10%)
  • Seek out opportunities to improve penetration of the installed base and increase quantity, quality, value and profitability of technical sales and service.
  • Includes optimal usage of time, sale of time to customers, obtaining signoff of service jobs, seeking out opportunities through work to increase spares, component sales and upgrade sales.
R9 Operational cost reduction (10%)
  • Proactively advice customers on possible areas of improvements in their plants where they could save on operating costs hence improving o their margins.

Qualifications
  • Degree in engineering
  • Computer literate
  • Should be in a position to work with computer software especially PLC programs.
  • Holds a valid driving license
Experience
  • 3-5 years food processing experience
Travel
  • Frequent travel (within East Africa and also within SSA cluster), sometimes for extended periods
