Our client, a leading International Publishing Company for Academic Journals and Electronic Books is looking for a Regional Business Development Manager. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for all direct sales to academic or government accounts in Kenya and the East African region. 

The ideal candidate will be IT savvy, have a strong commercial background,  and able to build strong business relationships with the Vice Chancellors and library decision makers in both private and public universities and other institutions of higher learning including research institutions.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
 
Account Plans: Develop sales strategies in cooperation with the Senior Licensing Manager or Sales Director, translate these into account plans for (key) accounts and executes these, in order to maximize sales revenue
 
Sales: Draft contract proposals, negotiate deals and sell the company services/products (new and renewal) to new and existing clients in line with the account plan, in order to achieve sales and revenue targets
 
Cross-selling and Up-selling: Identify opportunities for cross selling and up selling using the service/product knowledge to create commercial opportunities and achieve sales growth
 
Relations Management: Develop and maintain relations with (potential) clients and relevant external parties, detect and realize business opportunities in cooperation with the senior licensing manager or Sales Director in order to create enduring and profitable relations and maximize sales (potential)
 
Markets Development: Identify developments, trends and competitive positions in the market within assigned geographical area and allocate them to relevant internal parties (Sales Director, Licensing Manager, Marketing, Publishing)
 
Administration: Register conducted customer related activities and data in appropriate tools and communicate status toward all parties involved (i.e., Finance, Marketing, Sales Support)

Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Degree or equivalent in Marketing and an IT background
  • A minimum of 5 years sales experience in a business to business environment and as a Senior Account Manager. Candidates with relevant sales experience to target market will have an added advantage
  • Knowledge in publishing business
  • Good presentation skills to large audiences
  • Ability to work both independently as well as in team
  • Willingness to travel extensively
