Medecins Sans Frontieres Belgium is looking to fill the position of a Maintenance Logistician (Kibera) for our Kenya mission, based in Nairobi County. 

The successful candidate will be under the direct supervision of the Field Logistician.

Objectives of the Position
:

To ensure correct maintenance and efficiency of the medical structures within the Kibera Project, including - electricity, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and painting.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

1. Rehabilitation, Construction and Storage
  • Ensures that all the medical structures and equipment are maintained and working efficiently.
  • Ensures that the “maintenance calendar” is implemented as planned and that all the electrical, plumbing and structural fixtures are maintained or immediately repaired if damaged.
  • Rotates within the MSF medical structures to assess the repairs and maintenance needs of the facilities.
  • Ensures that all the security measures (alarms, fences, gates, guards, keys, locks and padlocks including fire prevention measures) are in place in all structures.
  • Supports the medical team to check the cold chain and ensures that the power back up for the fridges is functioning well.
  • Assists in the supervision of sub-contracted logistical work done in the clinics.
2. Ongoing Logistical Services
  • Monitors the proper electrical and water supply flowing into the medical structures and notifies the Field Logistician in case of disconnection or interruptions.
  • Ensures the proper supply (quantity and quality) and storage of fuel for the generators.
3. Communication/Communication Equipment Maintenance
  • In collaboration with Field Logistician, ensures that all users are well trained and that the equipment is serviced and repaired correctly.
  • Performs basic maintenance and trouble-shooting for minor communication equipment problems.
  • Informs the Field logistician of any malfunctioning VHF/HF in the clinics that needs repairs
  • Together with Field Logistician, assesses the project’s needs for communication equipment.
Qualifications & Requirements:

Education: Minimum Diploma level in Engineering or related field

Experience: At least 3 years of professional experience in a similar or related function

Skills/Competences: Efficient, independent (can-work with limited supervision), flexible and proactive. Must know how to organize work load and multi-task.

Language: Proficiency in written and oral English & Kiswahili.
