BBC Media Action uses media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. 

To achieve this, BBC Media Action partners with civil society, local media and governments to:
  • Produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development and humanitarian issues.
  • Strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure.
We seek a highly experienced professional to fill the role of Editor

The Editor will guide the overall vision and output for a national multi-media programme, which includes TV, radio, web and social media components. 

The series will consist of 32 episodes to be produced from May through to the end of January 2014.

Required knowledge, skills and experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications and/or substantial broadcast journalism experience in current affairs for TV and radio. Experience in on-line production an asset;
  • Substantial editorial experience gained in a major media house and a proven track record as a programme maker;
  • Demonstrable experience of location recording for TV and Radio;
  • Understanding of the technical and editorial demands of editing weekly topical series;
  • In-depth awareness of audiences and their needs, and the ability to respond with creative and viable production ideas;
  • Effective negotiating and management skills, and experience of recruiting, leading, managing and motivating production teams;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the regulatory requirement for media in Kenya;
  • Fluency in both written and spoken Kiswahili and English.
