Shelter-Afrique is a regional Housing Finance Institution established by African governments and the African Development Bank dedicated to investment in housing and urban development in African countries. 

The current shareholding comprises 44 African countries, the African Development Bank and the African Re-Insurance Corporation. 

The institution, with its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, invites applications from suitably qualified individuals who are nationals of its member countries to fill the following vacant position:
 
Job Title: Assistant Officer Accounting 

Responsible to a Team Leader in the Financial Management department to assist in the company’s accounting activities. 

This includes performing day-to-day book keeping and accounting for the company. 

This position operates with limited supervision for routine work and is an evolving position and responsibilities may shift over time.
 
Job Description
  • Perform bank reconciliations
  • Updating and maintenance of the general ledger and various sub ledgers - debtors, creditors, fixed assets
  • Reconciliation of creditors and debtors accounts
  • Updating and maintenance of fixed assets ledger, including physical asset tagging and verification.
  • Perform accounts analysis using spreadsheets
  • Timely processing of payments
  • Analysis and follow up of advances / imprests to staff
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Accounts or Finance or Business Administration
  • Full professional qualification in Accounts – CPA, ACCA etc.
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience in a finance department or experience in external / internal audit
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft office applications such as Word, Excel.
  • Good working knowledge of a computerized accounting environment, preferably an ERP system such as Oracle.
  • Working knowledge of French language will be an added advantage

Job Title: Assistant Officer Legal Services

Responsible to the Associate Legal Officer for providing administrative and technical support to the department in order to facilitate the smooth functioning of duties including drafting of loan agreement, custody, safekeeping storage and retrieval of case files, material documents and exhibits assisting in handle all the Company’s legal matters as delegated.
 
Job Description
  • Research on legal data to assist with cases taken up.
  • Assist in the research and Interpretation of legal texts for Shelter Afrique.
  • Assist management in interpreting and applying statutes, rules and regulations as may be required from time to time.
  • Assist to establish or review legal conditions attached to loans.
  • Assist in the drafting of loan agreements and security documentation and ensure that the company’s loans are adequately secured.
  • Attend to the drafting of various other agreements as may be required from time to time by virtue of the Company’s relations with bilateral, multilateral institutions and governments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in law
  • Minimum three (3) years of post qualifying experience.
  • Valid license to practice
  • Knowledge of, legal principles, precedents, procedures and handling of confidential information in the provision of specialized administrative and logistical support to department
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills in English, especially in ability to prepare legal documents and various other correspondence requiring knowledge of specialised legal terminology
  • Demonstrated customer focus and ability to deal patiently with people from diverse backgrounds and to develop practical solutions to problems
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft office applications such as Word, Excel.
  • Willingness to learn the Company’s second official language (French).
