Protection Officer Job in Nairobi Kenya


Applications are invited from qualified candidates to fill the position of Protection Officer in the DRC Outreach Office (Buruburu).
 
Job Summary
 
The purpose of this post is to provide day to day management and coordination of the DRC funded refugee protection project in Nairobi. 

In particular, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing the work of Community Mobilizers and will liaise closely with the Project Coordinator on documentation of programme activities as per the donor requirements.
 
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the implementation of the protection project activities according to project proposal
  • Monitor and provide daily support to the community monitors in the implementation of the activities
  • Undertake field visits to project sites to ensure that the activities are being carried out in accordance with the work plans and schedules
  • Identify protection gaps and intervention strategies thereof
  • Organize and participate in the protection working group and other related meetings
  • Relevant capacity development for the community monitors
  • Play a lead role in participatory assessment of community needs in DRCs areas of work in liaison with the field staff
  • Monitor, analyze and prepare reports on the prevailing protection conditions among persons of concern.
  • Ensure documentation (reports, minutes, list of participants and photos) of all programme related activities.
  • Mainstreaming HAP standards throughout the project cycle
Desired Qualities
  • Experience in an urban refugee setting and knowledge of refugee issues;
  • Self-motivated and able to work under minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
  • University degree in relevant field (Political Science, International Relations, Law, Community Development or social sciences) with at least 2-years’ experience working in protection, human rights, gender issues with refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and/or other vulnerable populations
  • Previous experience working with persons of concern within the inter-agency context
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills
  • Cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective and working relations with local partners and other stakeholders;
  • Experience and willingness to work in the field
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relations with various stakeholders
