The Aga Khan University (AKU) was established in 1983 as an international university with teaching sites spread over 8 countries in Asia, Africa and Europe. 

AKU is a non-denominational institution open to all, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, gender or national origin. It has a diversified workforce of over 10,000 employees worldwide.
 
In East Africa, AKU operates a 300-bed tertiary teaching hospital in Nairobi, with more than thirty medical centres, and offers academic programmes in medical, nursing and teacher education in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. 

The Hospital in Kenya has recently opened the much acclaimed Heart and Cancer Center. Six Professional Schools for Graduate Studies and a 450-million dollar campus is planned for Arusha, in north-eastern Tanzania to be built in the next 15 years. 

This is just a glimpse into the phenomenal growth of AKU.
 
As the Director, HR, for AKU, East Africa, you will occupy a strategic role where your management, leadership and communication skills can make the difference between success and failure.

Leading a team of HR professionals spread over 3 countries, in East Africa, you will be directly responsible for the provision of HR services to the Aga Khan University Hospital and will oversee the HR function for all the other academic entities of AKU in East Africa. 

You will participate in the Senior Leadership Team for both the Hospital and for the regional academic entities, and in strategic planning and service delivery for the achievement of University wide goals and objectives. 

You will oversee and direct all aspects of HR services, including the formulation and implementation of HR policies; and the establishment of HR systems for: performance & rewards management; recruitment & selection; employee & industrial relations and HRMS & HRD to meet and anticipate the current and future human capital needs to support of the strategic thrusts of the University in East Africa.
 
You will have professional, generalist HR qualifications and 8 - 10 years senior management experience with prior experience of working in a multi-cultural setting. In addition, you should be a problem solver, an implementer, a natural leader, an influencer, a change agent, resourceful, resilient and organized.

Your professional and management skills will ensure that you take everything in your stride, even when you are faced with a combination of strategic and operational issues, and your priorities change by the hour.
