Centre for Health Solutions- Kenya (CHS) is a local indigenous Kenyan organization that utilizes local expertise and strategic partnerships to ensure the implementation of evidence informed solutions and interventions to existing and emerging public health concerns.

Through the TEGEMEZA project, CHS is working in partnership with the Ministries of Medical Services and Public Health and Sanitation to support the implementation of HIV prevention, care and treatment activities at provincial and district health facilities in Central Kenya. 

This is part of a US Government initiative against HIV in Kenya that receives funding from PEPFAR through the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

CHS is currently sourcing for high calibre individuals to fill the following positions:

Pediatric Advisor

0025/CHSIPAI2OI2- (Nairobi Office)

Overall Job function

Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Pediatric Advisor will be responsible for providing technical support in the implementation of clinical care in pediatric HIV prevention, care and treatment activities in coordination with the Kenyan Ministries of Health and CHS staff especially in adolescent and pediatric HIV care including care for HIV exposed infants and pediatric TB.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:-
  • Providing technical support in development and implementation of work plans
  • Providing technical support in design and implementation of paediatric and adolescent HIV programs
  • Providing technical support to a team of implementing officers in CHS and to MOH staff including training and residential mentorship
  • Capacity building of clinical team on paediatric matters through CMEs, mentorship and dissemination of new knowledge
  • Liaising with Ministry of Health officials and other stakeholders in the implementation of the program in line with Ministry of Health guidelines and priorities
  • Take part in drafting CHS quarterly and annual reports and other written materials such as lessons learned, case studies and other materials as required
  • Development of job aids, tools and materials as needed including CMEs for use at facility level to support health care workers to provide paediatric HIV services
  • Assisting in program monitoring and evaluation and use of data to inform program planning and continuous improvement as well as research as needed
Qualifications and Skills required
  • Masters degree in paediatrics and child health
  • MPH is an added advantage
  • Minimum of 3 years working experience in development programs with significant TA experience in public health programs; HIV/AIDS program experience preferred
  • Working experience in donor funded public health program is an added advantage.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
TB Advisor

Overall Job Function

Reporting to the Director of Programs, the TB Advisor will be responsible for providing technical assistance in the design, implementation and evaluation of all TBIHIV activities within CHS supported programs at national, regional and facility level in coordination with the Division of Leprosy, TB and Lung Disease (DLTLD), the National AIDS and STI Control Program (NASCOP) and the Ministry of Health.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Providing, planning, directing and participating in formal training and mentorship at health facilities in TB/HIV co-management
  • Strengthening the implementation of TB intensified case finding for PLHIV at all CHS-supported facilities
  • Strengthening the implementation of Provider-initiated Testing and Counselling (PITC) of TB patients at CHS-supported facilities
  • Strengthening referral linkages between TB Clinic and Comprehensive care clinics at CHS-supported facilities
  • Providing technical assistance for TB infection control at CHS-supported facilities
  • Providing technical assistance for IPT use at CHS-supported facilities
  • Providing technical assistance for surveillance and management of drug-resistant TB infection control at CHS-supported facilities
  • Providing on-going supervision of TB/HIV activities
  • Providing technical assistance on TB/HIV to CHS officers and health care providers
  • Representing CHS at TB/HIV technical working groups and meetings
  • Contributing to the designing, planning and implementation of research related to TB/H IV
Qualification and Skills required
  • MBchB
  • A masters degree in Medicine, Public Health or its equivalent will be an added advantage
  • At least 3 years experience in public health preferably within TB control programs
  • Clinical experience including HIV management
  • Computer literacy and excellent report writing skills
  • Good management and co-ordination skills
  •  Experience on technical project implementation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and good team spirit
  • Experience in writing project reports and management plans
Adherence, Psychosocial Support and Community (APSC) Officer -

Overall Job Function

Reporting to APSC Advisor, an APSC officer is responsible for providing technical support in the planning, implementation and evaluation of adherence support activities required for HIV prevention, care and treatment services within CHS supported facilities in coordination with the Ministry of Health

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to
  • Overseeing the planning, initiation and implementation of the CHS Adherence Psychosocial Support minimum package at CHS supported facilities
  • Participating in the development of APSC tools to be used for documentation and as job aids in health facilities
  • Identifying training needs, plan, facilitate, and take part in training of health care workers and other stakeholders on adherence and psychosocial support and PwP using national training curricula
  • Support planning, implementation and evaluation of defaulter identification and tracking systems at supported health facilities
  • Ensuring meaningful involvement of peer educators and mentor mothers in APSC activities.
  • In liaison with the Ministries of Health, participate in activities that lead to strengthened linkages between the health facility and the community.
  • Providing technical assistance to health care workers and other stakeholders in implementation of the CHS community support model
  • Providing technical assistance in psychosocial activities targeting Health Care Workers Living with HIV
  • Support planning, implementation and evaluation of Prevention with Positives (PwP) activities at facilities
  • Implementing evidence-based techniques and strategies to ensure quality programming in adherence and psychosocial and prevention activities under direction from the APSC advisor
  • Identifying, documenting and sharing key lessons learnt on adherence and psychosocial support from health facilities and the community
Qualifications and Skills required
  • Degree in Social Sciences or its equivalent
  • At least 3 years working experience
  • Must demonstrate familiarity with the Kenyan health system
  • Must demonstrate familiarity with HIV community programs including peer education
  • Teaching, facilitation, mentoring and counseling skills
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal, organizational and written/verbal communication skills
