Accountant Job in Lodwar Kenya


Oxfam’s Kenya Programme is a complex programme that incorporates both rapid and slow onset emergencies as well as longer term development and policy work. 

Oxfam Kenya applies a one programme approach which means it has multiple activities that support a holistic approach to humanitarian, development and advocacy for long lasting change in poverty reduction. 

Oxfam Kenya is engaging in the great changes taking place in Kenya including the devolution of government, preparation for peaceful elections, the discovery of Oil in the Arid Lands and the expansion of informal urban settlements. 

To this end, we are seeking to fill the following position:
 
Donor Accountant - Lodwar Based
 
Contract: National - One Year Fixed term contract
 
Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, the Donor Accountant will among other tasks be responsible for donor contract management by ensuring financial donor reports are prepared reviewed and submitted in a timely manner and ensure that all reports adhere to the donor reporting requirements. 

S/he will be expected to train program officers and partners in preparation of donor budgets and reports, work with external auditors and ensure that donor reports are reconciled to Oxfam’s internal financial systems. 

The post holder will also be responsible for providing support to partners by reviewing partners’ financial reports and advising them on the same, conducting partner assessments and visits for capacity building as well as providing support and advice to the programme team on the analysis of partner budget proposals and in the interpretation of financial returns from the partners. 

The incumbent of this position will take lead in budget and expenditure monitoring of the Turkana program budgets and advise project staff on their budget status in terms of timeliness of expenditure as well as provide variance reports to the management. 

The Donor accountant will be expected to ensure the proper use and maintenance of computerised financial systems and to this end will be required to maintain up to date financial records and to manage grant balances including project budgets, as well as clearing all unauthorised grant payments plus the old grants out of the system through project reversion and to ensure that all financial information is accurately uploaded into Oxfam’s financial systems.
 
To be successful in this role you will hold a relevant degree coupled with an accounting professional qualification (e.g. ACCA or CPA (K)) with a minimum of 3 years working experience in an NGO. 

Knowledge and experience of donor financial reporting requirements in particular with DFID, ECHO, EC, UN and CIDA will be an added advantage. 

You will manage resources and deadlines with minimal supervision and have a high level of initiative. 

You will demonstrate a good level of communication and be able to recommend and implement improvements. 

You will also be expected to show evidence of high level of planning skills with accuracy and attention to detail.

In addition you will be able to show commitment to the organizational values and its policy on diversity.
