Campaign, Advocacy and Lobbying (CAL) Programme Officer

Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM-Kenya) Association is a network of 36 NGOs and Civil Society Organisations working with small-scale farmers in Kenya. 

PELUM- Kenya has the following vacancy to be based in its National Secretariat in Thika Town.

The required person should:
  • Have at least a degree in the relevant discipline especially agriculture, environmental science, and any other community development related discipline. Those with lower qualification but with proven hands-on and compensating experience may also apply.
  • Have proven experience and skills in fundraising (donor liaison, proposal and report writing)
  • Have at least a 3-year experience in working with NGOs, networks and / or farmers organisations
  • Have a good knowledge and practical experience in issues that affect small scale farmers and communities
  • Have some hands-on experience in campaign, advocacy and lobbying and be knowledgeable on the current topical issues (agro fuels / bio-fuels, land issues, GE / GMOs, climate change, EPAS etc)
  • Have the ability to create synergy and work closely with other national and regional networks and collaborative partners to create lobbying alliances and coalitions.
  • Have skills and experience ¡n managing community /farmer-led campaigns, advocacy and lobbying
  • Be at least 30 years old
In addition, the person should:
  • Have excellent skills in negotiations at national, regional and international meetings.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills ¡n English.
  • Ability to work for long hours with minimal supervision
  • Be computer literate with the proven ability to use essential software packages, email and internet.
The Officer will be reporting to the Programme Operations Manager.
