Senior Consultancy Expert
Contract Duration: 6 months renewable
Practical Action Consulting (PAC) is the consulting arm of Practical Action an International NGO working with the poor communities to help them choose and use technology to improve their lives today and in generations to come.
As the consulting arm of an International NGO, PAC extends
Practical Action’s work by undertaking consulting opportunities with donors,
governments, NGOs, private sector and other implementing agencies.
PAC Eastern Africa Regional office seeks to recruit a highly qualified consultant with strong self-drive and proactive team player to fill the position of Senior Consultancy Expert.
The Consultancy Expert will be expected to contribute to the
strategic development of PAC – EA and its role within Practical Action Regional
Office.
S/he will also drive efforts to develop and deliver high quality
technical consultancy; and effectively manage assignments and technical
teams.
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a highly
capable person with strong networking and influencing skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Support
the development and delivery of thematic based work and through this
influence the policies and practice of others
- Develop
winning proposals and win new work from international donors and the
private sector; raise the profile of Practical Action Group with these donors,
International agencies, government, private sector and NGOs
- manage
a strategic portfolio of regional projects with full responsibility for
technical delivery, financial control, donor reporting, contract
preparation and conformance
- Take
responsibility for specific business development, research, marketing and
business management as agreed with the Regional Manager
- Effective
knowledge generation, capture and sharing of project experience.
The successful applicant will have:
- A
masters degree in a relevant discipline eg development studies,
development economics, or a related discipline
- At
least 10 years’ experience working as a consultant in the EA region in a
variety of contexts with demonstrable experience in the innovation and
implementation of short and long term consultancy assignments
- Strategic
management and strategy implementation experience
- Project
management experience: project development, coordinating, managing project
associates and financial planning and control
- Proven
track record in a technical discipline such as energy, climate change,
agricultural markets or urban services
- Proven
expertise and knowledge in development of winning proposals and work from
donors and a network of contacts
- Strong
research and M & E skills
- Proven
ability to lead, manage and inspire a team of capable individuals to
deliver a team agenda while meeting individual targets
- Excellent
written and oral communication and negotiation skills
- Strong
analytical skills and computer literacy /competencies
- Ability
to travel up to 12 weeks per year.
