Export Manager

Our client is a blue chip company that specialises in manufacture and distribution of aluminium and copper cable products in East Africa including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Southern Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi. With the growth of the business they require an export manager to take the firm to the next level.   

While ideally, an individual would have a background in engineering, this is not absolute requirement. Stress in this position is on those who have the mindset and passion for marketing and ability to drive sales - - and 5 to 7 years work experience.

The export manager’s primary responsibility is to manage and grow the export business and to ensure availability of the company’s products in those markets. 

Primary responsibilities

  • Formulate and implement export related marketing, sales and distribution strategies and plans to ensure achievement of targets.
  • With the commercial manager, actively explore and establish new markets for the company’s products through visits, exhibitions and other means.
  • Carry out market research and intelligence and provide market information that will assist in designing marketing strategies and development of new products for existing and potential markets.
  • Establish, build and maintain relationships and contacts with transporters, shipping agents, clearing and forwarding agents and regulatory authorities to ensure smooth export sales operations.
  • Prepare export reports and statistics for management decision making.
  • Handle all documents related to export sales and ensure they are duly signed, authorized and are in order to avoid litigation and/or penalties arising from defective documents or procedures.
  • Liaise with export promotion authorities and participate in regional shows and exhibitions to market the company and its products.
  • Co-ordinate the development of trading terms and conditions with distributors and other business partners and ensure they are fair to export customers.
Qualifications
  • Ideally bachelor’s degree in electrical/ mechanical engineering
  • Postgraduate diploma in marketing or business management & administration
  • Strong problem solving skills based on an ability to analyze a situation based on hard facts and figures, blended with a touch of creative thinking
  • At least five years sales/marketing experience in export sales.
  • Experience in a shipping or clearing and forwarding environment.
  • Good people management skills
  • Computer literacy including office applications, such as MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
This position is based in Kenya with frequent travel within East Africa region and would suit those whose salary expectations range from KSh 150,000 to 200,000 per month.


Distribution Manager 

Our client is a “blue chip” company that specialises in manufacture and distribution of aluminium and copper cable products in East Africa including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Southern Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi. With the growth of the business they require a distribution manager to take the firm to the next level.   

While ideally, an individual would have a background in engineering, this is not absolute requirement. Stress in this position is on those who have the mindset and passion for marketing and ability to drive sales and 7 to 10 years work experience.

The Distribution Manager formulates and implements marketing, sales and customer relations within the distribution outlets in order to increase the organization’s market share. She/he will develop and negotiate strategic partnership with distributors to enhance the company’s competitive position.

Primary responsibilities
  • Keep distributors aligned to the agreed plans and ensure availability at all outlets within the designated sales territory.
  • Monitor sales of distributors, stockists and key accounts on a regular basis and report accordingly.
  • Ensure monthly achievement of sales targets via the distributor.
  • Initiate contracts with distributors and manage the day to day distribution relationships to ensure effective distribution of the company’s products.
  • Re-align distributor policies with company policies
  • Distributors’ recruitment in new markets and town.
  • Establish and maintain good corporate relations and implement a PR and customer care management programme.
  • Steer market research and intelligence, and conceptualize new products for the market
  • Ensure high level company visibility in the market.
Qualifications
  • Master in business administration is an added advantage
  • Bachelors degree in a sales and or marketing related field
  • Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) qualifications or its equivalent
  • Ten years relevant working experience in sales & marketing management three years of which should be at senior level preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience or qualification in electrical engineering an added advantage
  • Good marketing, selling and public relations skills
  • Strong management and negotiation skills
  • Ability to develop, formulate strategy and exercise good judgment
  • Computer literacy including office applications, such as MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet.

Country Manager – Rwanda 

Our client is an established blue chip company that specialises in manufacture and distribution of aluminium and copper cable products in East Africa including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Southern Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi. 

With the growth of the business they require a country manager based in Rwanda to take the firm to the next level.   

Ideally, an individual would have a background in engineering, though this is not absolute requirement. 

Stress in this position is on someone who has the mindset and passion for marketing and ability to drive sales - - and 7 to 10 years work experience and feels comfortable dealing with those in senior positions.
 
The Country Manager - Rwanda is responsible for managing the sales team and ensuring that customer needs are met through optimal availability of company’s products. 
 
Primary responsibilities
  • Develop annual sales targets, budgets and strategic plans and ensure effective budgetary control
  • Develop and implement sales strategies plans and provide support in marketing strategies and plans such as promotion – below and above the line
  • Ensure that sales targets are achieved, monitor sales and profits against agreed budget and where necessary, recommend changes to strategies and support plans
  • Design and manage an appropriate distribution strategy with well elaborated route plans to ensure adequate market coverage by the sales force
  • Input into ideas on  new products for the market
  • Analyze prevailing market trends, market research information obtained from the sales force and economic factors to provide market feedback for management decision making
  • Ensure brand profitability through correct pricing policies and product costing
  • Establish and maintain good corporate relations and customer care
  • Select, train, motivate, appraise and develop an effective sales team
Qualifications
  • Ideally BSc in electrical - mechanical engineering, or degree in any other field
  • MBA would be an added advantage
  • Postgraduate diploma in marketing or business management and administration
  • At least 7 years’ relevant working experience in sales in FMCG or in electrical engineering, three years of which should be at management level
  • Strong problem solving skills based on an ability to analyze a situation based on hard facts and figures, blended with a touch of creative thinking
  • Outgoing personality, team player who takes initiative

Commercial Manager – Tanzania

Our client is one of Kenya’s “blue chip” firms that manufacture and Distribute Aluminium And Copper Cable Products in East Africa – where we are recruiting a Commercial Manager – Tanzania.
   
The Commercial Manager formulates and implements marketing, sales and customer relations strategies in order to increase the company’s market share. 

She/he will develop and negotiate strategic partnerships to enhance the company’s competitive position and play a crucial role in product and market development.
 
Primary responsibilities
  • Formulate and implement sales, PR and marketing plans and strategies to develop market share and sales revenue.
  • Establish and maintain good corporate relations and implement a PR and customer care management programme.
  • Steer market research and intelligence, and conceptualize new products for the market
  • Develop the export market with initial focus in Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia & Ethiopia
  • Ensure smooth implementation of strategic partnership and distribution of partner products
  • Steer quality management initiatives to implement and sustain quality management systems based on ISO standards
  • Steer the company’s product diversification initiatives and launch new products in liaison with other departments to meet market demand.
  • Coordinate and deliver promotion support for existing and new products within budget and liaise with promotion agencies.
  • Monitor the performance of different products and advise management accordingly
  • Prepare marketing budgets and ensure they are adhered to.
  • Ensure high level company visibility in the market.
  • With the Sales Manager (Kenya) set marketing targets for staff in the department and assess their performance to ensure targets are achieved.
  • Participate in the all round management and development of human resources in the department
Qualifications
  • Ideally have a masters in business administration, bachelors degree in electrical - mechanical engineering
  • Postgraduate diploma in marketing or business management and administration with ten years relevant working experience in sales & marketing management three of which should be at senior level preferably in a manufacturing environment.
