Background:
VSF Germany
is an international Non-Governmental Organization, providing humanitarian aid
and development assistance to pastoralists and vulnerable communities in areas
where livestock is of importance.
With
support in animal health, agriculture, marketing, food safety but also with
developing the capacity of communities and governmental institutions or
initiating peace and conflict resolution we work towards food security and
strengthened livelihoods of pastoralist communities.
We seek to
recruit a qualified and well experienced Project Officer - Natural Resource Management to support the implementation of RAPID
II Project in Marsabit, Northern Kenya, with frequent visits to other locations
within the project area.
This
position is field based.
The
incumbent will work in collaboration with the Project Manager, Community
Stakeholders & Partner organizations.
Key
Responsibilities:
- The incumbent will be
responsible for implementing the natural resource management and disaster
risk reduction related activities.
- Regularly monitor activities
and report progress to the Senior Programs Officer.
- He/She will be required to
identify & provide training for the community user groups including
rangeland user groups, peace committees among other community institutions
dealing with natural resource management and disaster risk reduction
interventions.
- Participate in project
coordination meetings representing VSF Germany at district and county
level forums as required.
- Respond to cross cutting issues
affecting the community in cooperation with specific expert agencies.
- Steer the development and
presentation of community drought preparedness plans with relevant groups
i.e. Peace Committees, Water User Committees and Resource Planning
Committees among other laid structures.
Qualifications, Experience,
Attributes & Skills required
- University Degree in Natural
Resource Management or Environmental Science from accredited university.
- Advance Diploma in Disaster
Management will be an added advantage.
- A minimum of 2-3 years working
in Livelihoods programming and Project support.
- Knowledge and experience of
working with pastoral communities.
- Excellent computer knowledge
and report writing skills.
- Knowledge of current policy on
Natural resource and environment management.
- Knowledge of Donor Funds
Management and Reporting.
- Working knowledge of ECHO rules
& regulations shall be an advantage.
We seek to recruit a
qualified and well experienced Project Officer-Livelihood
& Resilience to support the
implementation of RAPID II Project in Lokichoggio, Northern Kenya, with
frequent visits to other locations within the project area.
This position is field
based.
The incumbent will
work in collaboration with the Field Coordinator, Community stakeholders &
Partner organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
- The
incumbent will be responsible for implementing the Livelihood and
resilience related activities.
- Regularly
monitor activities and report progress to the Field coordinator.
- He/She
will be required to identify & provide training for the community user
groups including Rangeland user groups, Livestock Marketing Association
(LMAs), Peace committee among other community institutions dealing with
livelihoods and food security interventions.
- Organize
livestock traders meetings, facilitate traders access to communities &
establish market links in key towns and food markets in drought affected
areas in collaboration with local District Livestock and Production
Officer (DLPO) and District Agricultural Officer(DAO) among other Key
Government line ministries.
- Participate
in project thematic coordination meetings representing VSF Germany.
- Through
consultations with the Field Coordinator, develop work plans, financial
projections and verify all financial reports on the respective component.
- Respond
to cross cutting issues affecting the community in cooperation with
specific expert agencies.
- Steer
the development and presentation of community drought preparedness plans
with relevant groups e.g. Peace committees, water user committees,
resource planning committees etc.
Qualifications, Experience, Attributes & Skills required

Economics / Agronomy / agribusiness / Marketing and Development Studies.

We seek to recruit a
qualified and well experienced Wash Technician to support the implementation of RAPID II Project in Marsabit,
Northern Kenya, with frequent visits to other locations within the project
area. This position is field based.
The incumbent will
work in collaboration with the Project Manager, Community Stakeholders &
Partner organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide
technical support and supervision including concept formulation, technical
design and monitoring & evaluation of WASH projects.
- Under
the leadership of the WASH Manager, provide technical guidance to
VSF-Germany technical staff and partners on WASH interventions as well as
assist staff working under him/her in creating linkages and enhancing
synergies with other VSF-Germany programs.
- Conduct
needs assessments, technical feasibility studies, prepare detailed
engineering designs, BOQs, and assess & identify areas of expansion.
- Together
with other project staff conduct/facilitate trainings in hygiene promotion,
community reflection meetings and stakeholders meetings.
- Organize
and conduct WASH trainings and capacity building of staff under him/her
and community members.
- Assist
in establishing effective monitoring, information and reporting systems
and development of communication materials and strategies.
- Develop
proposals, work plans, budgets and compile program reports and represent
VSF-Germany at various WASH forums.
Qualifications, Experience, Attributes & Skills required
- Holder
of BSc Civil Engineering/Water and Environmental Engineering/Public Health
or equivalent from a reputable institution.
- Minimum
of 2-3 years working experience and practical knowledge in design of
community based WASH programs in an NGO setting.
- Knowledge
and experience of working with pastoral communities.
- Excellent
computer skills with hands on planning and designing software.
- Excellent
managerial and report writing skills.
- Knowledge
of Donor Funds Management and Reporting.
- Working
knowledge of ECHO rules & regulations shall be an advantage.
