Applications are hereby invited from suitable Kenya nationals to fill the above post.
Terms of Reference:
Under the supervision of the WHO Country Representative - Kenya and in liaison with WHO Country Disaster Preparedness and Response Focal point the incumbent will provide technical assistance through the following functions.
- Take
up office management functions of the WHO sub-office in Garissa including;
Supervision of staff, manage finances, oversee office operations, liaison
with other agencies/partners and UN security field officers.
- Work
closely with the Provincial Directors Health to facilitate in
implementation of the following activities;
- Support
Provincial Health teams and /DMOHS to coordinate partner forums at the
province and districts within the existing Government structures:
supporting platforms for joint planning and coordinated health actions
between national and international actors and also analyzing and mapping
out all partners in the health sector.
- Produce
real time emergency health information and dissemination
- Assist
the MOH to collect and update data on IDSR priority diseases, malnutrition
and other disasters;
- Assist
the P/DMOHs in analyzing data and producing regular reports and facilitating
the setting up of early warning system in the affected districts, in
collaboration with the P/DMOS
- Facilitate
rapid health and nutrition assessments in collaboration with the MOPHS and
Partners as and as required;
- Supporting
Ministries of Health in establishing and running the technical task forces
needed to identify and fill the lifethreatening gaps in health care
delivery
- Support
capacity building of MoH and Partners through ensuring standards and
guidelines dissemination.
- Facilitate
periodic update on key health indicators and Health interventions in the
province and indicate needed actions.
- Support
monitoring of health sector interventions including disaster response
activities in the targeted districts in collaboration with respective
National focal points

Perform any other duties assigned by supervisor and WHO Country
Representative.
Subject to agreement of both parties, these terms of reference
may be modified from time to time, as required in the interest of WHO
activities.
Qualification/Knowledge:
First University degree in medicine or other health sciences

Essential: Post graduate qualifications in Public Health/ Epidemiology or disaster management.
Language: Excellent written and spoken English and working knowledge of French Good command of Kiswahili would be an asset.
Experience: Essential: Minimum 4 years of relevant working experience in Health Sector in public health and epidemic/disaster preparedness and response activities and At least 3 years working experience at National provincial level or with an NGO.
Desirable: Experience in working with United Nations, multilateral or other non-profit international organization in health development.
