Medical Officer for Marie Stopes Clinics
Role: Medical Officer
2 Positions
Liaises With:Nurses, Clinical Officers, Care Assistant, Lab Technologists and
other team members
Duty Station: Mombasa and Nairobi
Purpose of the role
Working hand in hand with and reporting to the Centre Manager, the Medical Officer’s main role is to perform medical procedures at the Clinic, maintain the high clinical standards expected by MSK and actively work to promote the smooth running of the clinic and contribute to improved financial performance.
Key responsibilities
Working hand in hand with and reporting to the Centre Manager, the Medical Officer’s main role is to perform medical procedures at the Clinic, maintain the high clinical standards expected by MSK and actively work to promote the smooth running of the clinic and contribute to improved financial performance.
Key responsibilities
- Overall
quality inputs into service delivery, including running full out-patient
clinic/ obstetric unit and providing surgical procedures as laid down in
the protocols.
- Taking
calls in any of the Marie Stopes Kenya Clinics as might be required.
- Proper
use of medical equipments and supplies and for notifying the centre
manager of needs for repair, maintenance or replacements etc.
- Ensuring
that team members provide effective health care.
- Arranging
for data collection and evaluation of services through on-going research
and evaluation where necessary.
- Actively
following organizational criteria for assessment of medical/ client care.
- Carry
out medical audit as frequently as possible.
- Relating
to other departments as required by medical inputs e.g. laboratory,
pharmacy etc.
- Proper
counseling of clients and being responsive to their needs.
- Recognition
potential medical problems and dealing with or refer them as appropriate.
- Responsible
for recommending and assisting in selection of specific medical equipments
and supplies.
- Responsible
for reporting all complications in writing within or before the end of the
day.
- On-Job-Training
of the Nurses, health care assistants, laboratory assistants and pharmacy
assistants.
- Preparing
and participating fully in Continuous Medical Education (C.M.E.)
- Responsible
for follow-up and treatment of client in regard to any minor or major
complications. Final report to be forwarded to the Clinical Services
Manager on discharge of client.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor
of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
- Must
have completed 1 year of internship in a busy hospital
- Excellent
communication and coordination skills and ability to work independently.
- Must
be registered with the Medical Practitioners and dentists board.

Role: Medical Officer
2 Positions
Reports To: National Choice Camp Manager
Liaises With: Nurses, Care Assistants, Drivers and other team members
Duty Station: Mombasa and Machakos
Purpose of the role
Working hand in hand with and reporting to the National Choice Camp Manager, the Medical Officer’s main role is to provide high quality maternal, sexual and reproductive health services within centre and outreach settings, with a focus on increasing uptake of tubal ligation throughout Kenya.
