Programme Co-ordinator (Ref 847)

Salary: Circa 2,626,140 KES (£20, 000 to £24,000 per annum GBP)

The Maternal & Newborn Health Unit at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an active academic unit seeking to improve maternal and newborn health globally. One of the key programmes is the ‘Making it Happen: Capacity Development of Human Resources for Maternal and Newborn Health Programme’, supported by Department for International Development (DFID), UK Aid.

In order to support this commitment, we are looking for a Programme coordinator to provide efficient and effective programme management support to ensure the smooth running of projects and programmes.  As well as undertaking a wide range of duties, the programme coordinator will contribute to the day to day management of the office based in Nairobi.

You will have day to day management of research programmes which will include responsibility for implementing systems to monitor the progress of programme activity and ensure successful delivery. It will also be expected that the successful candidate will coordinate the completion of reports as required by the partners and donors.
  
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent with evidence of continued professional development in a relevant subject area. Proven experience in providing programme support to complex international projects is essential, as is experience of aspects of financial management when dealing with development and/or funding agencies.
 

The ability to communicate and build effective working relationships with a range of people at all levels from diverse cultures is a pre-requisite of the role, as is excellent time management and organisational skills.  

Excellent working knowledge of MS Office applications is crucial for this role.

Senior Technical Officer (Ref 845)

The Maternal and Newborn Health Unit  at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an active academic unit seeking to improve maternal and newborn health globally. One of our key programmes is the ‘Making It Happen: Capacity Development of Human Resources for Maternal and Newborn Health Programme’, supported by the Department for International Development, UK Aid.

The programme‘s overall goal is to contribute to a reduction in maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity. Ensuring best practice and an improved policy environment in maternal and newborn health which will be reflected in a step change in the coverage and uptake of quality Skilled Birth Attendance (SBA) and Essential (Emergency) Obstetric Care (EOC) and Newborn Care (NC).

Under the supervision of LSTM , the successful candidate will be expected to implement a Making It Happen (MIH) programme workplan and provide technical assistance to the MIH programme in conducting training needs assessments. This will include organising and implementing training activities with a focus on SBA, EOC, NC and quality of care
 
You will also be providing support for the formation and strengthening of partnerships with MOH and other relevant agencies, including participation in joint actions such as technical working groups and workshops to facilitate capacity-building and programme implementation.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in a related health discipline (from a recognized University or affiliated training hospital). 

It is necessary that you have substantial clinical experience and have experience in competency based in service training for health workers and quality improvement of Maternal Newborn Health Services.
