Deacons the leading fashion retailer in East Africa over the last fifty years, is seeking to recruit focused, self-driven professionals of high integrity. 

Deacons operates ten exciting brands namely, Woolworths, Truworths, Identity, Mr. Price Home, Mr. Price Clothing, 4u2, Angelo, Adidas, Lifefitness and Babyshop; through thirty one retail outlets, with a central head office and warehousing operation. 

Deacons is soon opening 3 new stores to trade the Babyshop, 4u2 and Angelo brands in Kampala, Uganda.

Operations Director 

Ref 08/2012

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this role is responsible for all Business Support functions, namely Finance, Human Resource, Information Technology, Property & Procurement, Warehousing and Distribution.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Lead strategic long-term initiatives for operational excellence;
  • Manage the effectiveness and efficiency of Business Support Services;
  • Coordinate workflow between support and front facing business retail operations;
  • Ensure deployment of appropriate operational systems, processes and policies;
  • Streamline and review requisite management reporting, for productivity;
  • Determine areas needing cost reduction and optimization;
  • Direct and coordinate procurement of non trade merchandise, shipping, storage and distribution of trade merchandise ;
  • Direct and coordinate property refurbishment to international franchisor standards;
  • Ensure a deep talent pipeline and an employee value proposition that engages;
  • Champion legal compliance and best practice Human Resource standards across all countries of operation;
  • Any other duties as delegated.
The successful candidate is likely to have:
  • A minimum of 10 years working experience majorly in Finance, the last 5 of which should be at a senior managerial level overseeing human resource, information technology among other administrative support roles ;
  • Clear strategic thinker with experience in formulating business strategies and plans and reporting at Board level;
  • Demonstrated leadership and vision managing across different staff groups, projects and initiatives;
  • Knowledge and experience in creating organizational effectiveness, managing change and implementing best practices;
  • Demonstrable experience in financial planning and analysis;
  • Good working knowledge of Regional markets and legislation;
  • Exemplify executive gravitas, leadership and solid negotiation skills;
  • Possess a Masters degree in Business Administration and be a fully qualified Certified Public Accountant;
Executive Business Analyst 

 Ref 09/2012

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Business Analyst offers the former support in a diverse range of business matters with investors, external stakeholders and senior management.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Undertake feasibility studies, business analysis and scenario planning for new business opportunities;
  • Offer executive support by coordinating meetings, preparing reports, managing the planning and reporting calendar and taking minutes;
  • Prepare well formatted and laid out reports, board papers and presentations;
  • Liaise with senior managers to manage business plan execution timelines and deliverables;
  • Present business analysis findings and conclusions to senior managers;
  • Monitor and advise of significant developments in the competitive business climate, government and legislative activities that may impact the business;
  • Support the development of new business initiatives while products are in pilot phase;
The successful candidate is likely be:
  • A young, high potential individual with a flair for business and potential to grow to general management levels;
  • At least 3 years directly related working experience in a junior management role;
  • Ability to quickly interpret and initiate actions that carry out management strategies;
  • High proficiency in refining data into important reports for use at senior levels;
  • Ability to build relationships with, and present information to senior executives;
  • A strong entrepreneurial spirit with high attention to detail;
  • Ability to work either independently or in a team environment, depending on the task at hand;
  • A Masters degree in Business Administration degree will be an added advantage.
