Program Description: Sunburst Projects is a
U.S. non-governmental organization that has been working with children living
with HIV/AIDS since 1988.
In 2010, Sunburst Projects and FACES began a collaboration to
bring social and psychological support to the many children living with HIV who
are being served by the FACES Clinics.
Peer Leaders will be stationed at FACES Clinic sites and will
work closely with FACES health care professionals to provide social &
psychological support programming for children/teens living with HIV.
Weekly support groups providing social and psychological support
for children and teens will be co-facilitated by a FACES staff member and a
trained Youth Peer Leader.
Group topics to include: disclosure, loss, fear, stigma,
medication adherence, risk behavior, sexual health, etc.
Peer Leaders will also run social and community outreach
programs as part of the program.

Requirements:
Peer Leaders are young people who have demonstrated a commitment
to serving their community, who are affected by HIV and passionate about
working with youth
PLs will need to meet the following qualifications:
- Must
be an active patient at either Lumumba PSC or FACES Nairobi PSC
- PLs
must have completed secondary school
- Must
be living with HIV or someone in their immediate family must be living
with HIV.
- If,
HIV +, they should have demonstrated strong adherence to medication
regimen.
- Should
be between the ages of 18-24.
- PLs
should live in the community they serve and be able to travel easily to
FACES Clinic sites and their surrounding communities.
- Possess
a desire to work compassionately with youth.
- Proficient
in English, Swahili, and other language.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit
children and teens into the program from the clinic.
- Co-facilitate
weekly support group sessions with youth living with HIV.
- Run
monthly social events (sports tournaments, field trips, technology
workshops, economic initiatives).
- Develop
and run a quarterly community outreach education/community service program
(HIV awareness at schools or churches, street performances, other
community service events).
- Complete
program surveys, evaluations, and track progress of participants.
- Keep
accurate financial and attendance records.
Transport Allowance: 3,000-4,000Ksh./Month
