1. Medical Director

This position reports to the General Manager East Africa with a dotted line to the Area Head, Medical Africa. 

The successful candidate’s will be responsible for Vaccines, Pharmaceutical and Consumer products marketed in East Africa. 

The candidate will also be responsible for Pharma and Biologicals clinical trials and Pharmacovigilance activities for marketed and investigational products in accordance with international and local legal requirements and guidelines.. 

The key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist marketing thinking in the development of communication to HCP to ensure compliance while delivering compelling scientifically founded material
  • Provide medical support to the marketing division and regulatory department to ensure successful commercialization of products throughout their life cycles
  • Discuss with and represent GlaxoSmithKline to policy makers and regulatory bodies.
  • Manage the Medical department.
  • Accountable for the governance oversight and implementation of Scientific Engagement principles and operating practices
  • Secure clinical Research and Development for East Africa by ongoing interactions with central GSK research divisions, regulatory authorities, key opinion leaders and investigators to ensure continued involvement in international multicentre clinical trials.
  • Understanding patient-population, demography and dynamics.
  • Provide medical support to the marketing division to ensure successful commercialization of products throughout their life cycles.
  • Review and approve promotional materials to agreed Standard Operating Procedures taking into account latest codes of conduct.
  • Provide a robust Medical Information Service to both internal and external customers.
  • Supply and maintain a compassionate use programme of unregistered products in accordance with legislation and clinical need.
  • Ensure training including Adverse Events and Promotional Code is conducted at induction for all new GSK staff.
Qualifications & Knowledge:
  • The successful candidate will have a minimum of a degree in Medicine Must be a registered with the Medical and Dentists
  • Practitioners Board and have a have a current Practicing License.The candidate will have a post graduate management or business qualification and over 5 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry /relevant experience.
  • The candidate will have excellent communication skills, ability to network with Key Opinion Leaders, experience in management of medical governance and maturity to manage sensitive information/crisis management.
2. Medical Advisor

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the medical/marketing programs at country level for the products assigned, as well as for providing technical support to marketing, medical, sales and external customers. This position reports to the Medical Director

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Provision of medical/scientific/technical advice/guidance to internal and external customers on GSK’s products
  • Training of Medical representatives on disease area and GSK’s Medical Governance policies and SOP’s
  • Ensure adherence to SOP’s and legislated standards
  • Spend a minimum of 40% of time in the field working with but not limited to Key Opinion Leaders and advisory boards within the area
Qualifications & Knowledge:
  • Degree in Medicine. Must be a registered with the Medical and Dentists Practitioners Board and have a current Practicing License.
  • 4 years post registration experience. Experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry preferably as a Medical Advisor will be a definite advantage.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills and management of information resources
  • Ability to network with Key Opinion Leaders and other Stakeholders
