We are combining business and clinical innovations to provide affordable maternity and reproductive health services to low-income urban women. 

We have launched our first clinics in Nairobi this year, and plan to expand to other locations in the region. 

Technology Associate

Job Summary

Jacaranda Health is seeking a Technology Associate to support the use of technology in a range of applications. 

This person will help us become a global pioneer in technology-supported health delivery. 

We rely on IT to communicate with the women we serve, support our clinicians, and understand our social impact. 

We want to assemble a portfolio of technologies (including mobile apps, medical record systems, and decision support tools) by using open source software, working with technology partners and consultants, and where feasible developing in-house solutions. 

Responsibilities
  • Serve as project manager for various technology initiatives, ensuring that all necessary development and deployment steps happen on schedule
  • With support from the management team, manage relationships with external software providers and developers
  • Based on individual capabilities, serve as in-house coder for development projects we can handle internally
  • Perform data analysis on Jacaranda operations, including clinical performance and business results
  • Ensure smooth functioning of IT resources at Jacaranda, troubleshoot problems, procure new equipment as needed
  • Maintain Jacaranda web presence
Qualifications
  • Degree in computer science or similar
  • 2-3 years of development and/or product management experience from a leading technology company
  • Hunger to learn new skills and programming languages and ability to do so quickly
  • Highly organized: able to determine priorities and juggle multiple deadlines
  • Highly resourceful, independent, and self-starting
  • Strong communication skills, ability to explain technologies to external audiences
  • Flexible and easy-going enough to work in a fluid, startup environment in Nairobi
  • Desired: Experience working with open-source electronic medical records systems, deep knowledge of Java, OOP, and Android development

Office Assistant

Job Summary

To assist in the day to day running of our office in Nairobi, Jacaranda Health is seeking an experienced Office Assistant.  

This person will play a critical role in establishing and maintaining the office infrastructure and processes for Jacaranda Health’s office in Pangani and ensuring that Jacaranda Health runs effectively and efficiently.  

We are also looking for an intelligent, proactive, and organized person who can juggle daily duties with special projects.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as receptionist in our Pangani office, managing hospitality and greeting guests for meetings
  • Create and maintain all documents and records related to office operations
  • Keep the office stocked with supplies and equipment and ensure office and clinic equipment is services & maintained as needed
  • Assist with processing of financial procedures such as expenses and payments
  • Provide administrative support to Jacaranda’s Director of Business Operations and other members of the management team, including transportation, travel and coordinating meetings and special events
  • Work closely with clinic administrative staff (e.g. receptionists and cashiers) to ensure the smooth running of administrative functions at the clinic sites
  • Liaise with other contacts and partners as required and maintain contacts list
  • Translate basic items from Swahili  into English and vice versa
  • Other office related duties as required
Requirements
  • Diploma in a related field preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in office administrative support, preferably in a fast-paced, growing organization
  • Strong working knowledge of Google products and of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Fluency in English and Swahili
  • Knowledge of local vendors and where to source products and services
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills
  • Clear communication skills
  • Independent, self-starter capable of working well with a team, multi-tasking effectively and managing a variety of responsibilities typical in a start-up environment
