Vice Chancellor

Makerere University Council invites applications from suitably qualified Ugandans for the post of Vice Chancellor aged between 40 — 60 years. 

Makerere University as an institution was established in 1922 and is governed by the University Council in accordance with the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 (as amended). 

The University currently has an enrolment of 47,000 students under a collegiate system.
 

The Vice Chancellor is the Chief Executive of the University, responsible for the academic, administrative and financial management of the University and is answerable to the University Council.

Qualifications & Attributes of the Vice Chancellor:
 
The desirable candidate should have a PhD/academic doctor ate or master degree in clinical disciplines at the rank of Associate Professor with academic, administrative and financial competencies as detailed on the Makerere University Website:www.jobs.mak.ac.ug

Remuneration

An attractive package including housing, chauffeur driven car, medical care for self and the immediate family and other benefits in accordance with the University Terms of Service.

Tenure of Appointment

The appointment shall be for five (5) years contract renewable once, subject to satisfactory performance.

Method of Application

Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications, together with the following:
  1. A letter of motivation
  2. Detailed and updated curriculum vitae signed and dated by the candidate
  3. A written statement of interest not exceeding 1000 words about the candidate’s vision for a competitive university in the 21st Century
  4. Names and addresses of three (3) referees who should forward their reports directly to the Secretary of the Search Committee under Confidential Cover by Thursday 28th, June 2012. Referees should attest the candidate’s high academic credentials, managerial and financial capacity and integrity
  5. Certified copies of academic transcripts and certificates
  6. Certified copies of Applicants birth certificates or relevant pages of their Passports.
Sealed applications should be forwarded under confidential cover and reach the Office of the Secretary of the Search Committee not later than Thursday 28th June 2012 at 5.00 p.m. East African time.

The envelopes should be clearly marked, “Application For Position of Vice Chancellor” on the top right hand corner.

Applications sent by electronic media (Email) tosearchadmin.mak.ac.ua will also be accepted, provided the application has been duly signed and scanned.

Incomplete applications and or applications received after the closing time will not be considered.
