First and Second Deputy Vice Chancellor Jobs in Uganda


Makerere University Councilinvites applications from suitably qualified persons to take up one of the two positions of First Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) and Second Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration).

Applicants should be citizens of Uganda aged between 40 — 60 years at the time of application. 

These are exciting Senior leadership positions in one of the reputable institutions of higher learning in Africa with responsibility for overseeing academic strategy, administration, planning and resourcing.

Makerere University is currently governed by the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 (as amended). 

The University with the main campus located on Makerere Hill, has other campuses in Jinja and Fort Portal towns and several affiliated institutions. 

Its enrolment currently stands at 47,000 students in 245 Undergraduate and Postgraduate academic programmes in the Sciences and Humanities disciplines.

First Deputy Vice Chancellor
(Academic Affairs)

Role:

The First Deputy Vice Chancellor shall:
  • Assist the Vice chancellor in the performance of his or her functions and in that regard be responsible for the Academic Affairs of the University;
  • In absence of the Vice Chancellor perform the functions of the Vice Chancellor;
  • Perform such other functions that may be delegated to him or her by the Vice Chancellor or assigned by the University Council.
Qualifications and Attributes of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs):
 
The desirable applicants should have a PhD/Academic Doctorate or Masters ¡n clinical disciplines and be at least at the level of Associate Professor.

Remuneration:

An attractive package including housing, chauffeur driven car and medical care for self and the immediate family in accordance with the University Terms of Service.

Tenure of Appointment:

The appointment shall be for (5) five years contract renewable once, subject to satisfactory performance.

Second Deputy Vice Chancellor 
(Finance and Administration)
 
Role:

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration) shall:
  • Assist the Vice Chancellor in the performance of his or her functions and in that regard oversee the finances and administration of the University;
  • Be responsible for the planning and development of the University;
  • Perform such other functions that may be delegated to him or her by the Vice Chancellor or assigned by the University Council.
Qualifications & Attributes of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance & Administration):
 
The desirable applicants should have a PhD/Academic Doctorate at least at the level of Associate Professor or should currently be in a position two levels below the policy making organ in a reputable organisation. Possession of an MBA will be an added advantage.

Referees should attest the candidate’s high academic credentials, managerial and financial capacity and integrity;

  6. Certified copies of applicants birth certificates or relevant pages of their Passports.
