Organizational Location/Unit: Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) / Office of the WHO Representative for Somalia.
The purpose of the post: To provide support to WHO Somalia country office programmes in all activities related to communications and advocacy including dissemination of information products.

The Successful Candidate Will:
Under the direct supervision of the Communications and Donor relations officer, with overall guidance of the WHO Representative for Somalia, the Communications Assistant will:
·         Contact WHO sub-offices to gather material on WHO’S work to promote the agency’s role in emergencies and health in general;
·         Prepare drafts of information materials, health updates, annual reports, human interest stories and updates for the website;
·         Assist in the design and development of communication materials;
·         Be responsible for the timely dissemination of the programme communication materials to target audiences, and participate in the evaluation of their impact;
·         Ensure that health partners, donors and other stakeholders receive on a timely basis WHO updates on the Somali situation;
·         Organize meetings and conferences, take notes, follow up with action points and prepare reports;
·         Contribute to development of an advocacy and communication strategy by conducting appropriate audience research and compiling and analyzing relevant data.
·         Any other tasks as requested by the Communications and Donor relations officer or WHO representative for Somalia;
Qualifications Required:
Education:
·         Completion of secondary school, supplemented with post-secondary training in Communication, Journalism and Public Relations.
Skills:
·         Good knowledge of WHO rules, manuals, practices/procedures and routines
·         Good knowledge of modern office procedures; computer literacy
·         Good filing and organizational skills
·         Communication in a credible and effective way, and ability to maintain good working relation with staff, experts and visitors
·         Producing and delivering quality results in pressing situations and conflicting priorities
·         Proven ability to work as part of a team
Experience:
·         Five years experience in Communications, Journalism and Public Relations
Languages:
·         Very good knowledge of spoken and written English and the local language.
