- Conservation Agriculture Regional Program (PAFID-CARP)
Participatory Approaches for Integrated Development (PAFID) is a nonprofit organization that creates sustainable, culturally relevant solutions, enabling communities in Kenya to break longstanding cycles of poor crop production methods that lead to soil degradation, food insecurity and inadequate nutrition.
Using
simple replicable methods, communities can improve livelihood inequalities
whilst practicing innovative climate change and global warming mitigation
techniques.
PAFID
is currently implementing Conservation Agriculture Regional program (CARP)
whose goal is to support enhancement of climate resilient conservation agriculture
and other sustainable natural resource management systems in Kenya.
PAFID is seeking to recruit Field Officers for its CARP project in Kenya.
The field officer is responsible for implementing the objectives of PAFID CARP project at the community level utilizing participatory approaches.
S/He
will be based at the division level at the project site.
Specific responsibilities include:-
- Conduct
farmer contact meetings and follow up meetings
- Facilitate
the selection and recruitment of lead farmers
- Provide
training and support to lead farmers and farmer groups
- Develop
and coordinate contacts with agro dealers working in the relevant areas to
ensure closer collaboration
- Developing
work plans, budgets, timelines and deliverables;
- Maintaining
critical relationships with the Ministry of Agriculture and other local
partners;
- Ensure
that work plans, budgets, monthly reports, program monitoring and
evaluation and other program reports are completed on time.
- Document
lessons learned and best practices
- Participate
in monthly team meetings
- Continuously
assess the training needs of farmers and various stakeholders and discuss
these needs with field supervisors and project manager on regular basis.
- Participate
in curricula design and development of participatory training techniques
for lead farmers.
- Support
farmer groups and link them to relevant agro dealers and other structures
- Participate
in joint activities with other stakeholders e.g. Field days and
agricultural shows
- Participate
in joint monitoring and supervision visits with relevant ministry staff.
- Requirements:
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Good
planning and organizational skills
- Tact
and diplomacy in dealing with staff related to work environment needs.
- Ability
to main effective working relationship with all levels of staff and public
- Must
be computer literate.
- Ability
to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Must
have a valid motor cycle license and or willing to learn to ride.
- Prepared
to be transferred to any location in Kenya as directed by PAFID
Minimum requirement: Education and experience
- A
bachelors’ degree in relevant field or a Diploma in community development
with at least 2 years work experience in an agricultural related
programs.
- Experience
in community mobilization and working with farmers and farmer groups will
be an added advantage.
- Computer
proficiency and good command of oral and written English and Kiswahili
language is Mandatory.
