Position: Field Officer

Innovations for
Poverty Action (IPA) is a non-profit research organization that creates and
evaluates approaches to solving development problems.
IPA disseminates the
results of its evaluations to policymakers, practitioners, investors and donors
around the world.
Field Officers will
work with IPA to assess data collection tools for clarity and usefulness.
To accomplish this,
Field Officers will work with the Project Associate to test surveys in
non-study areas.
Field Officers will
also work with the Project Associate to conduct focus groups in order to
further refine these surveys and data collection tools.
Field Officers will
then work with the Project Associate to refine and improve these data
collection tools.
Field Officers will be
based in Nairobi or Central Province and will be required to travel within and
between these regions.
Overnight trips are
possible. Field Officers will work closely with one another and will be
accompanied by the Project Associate for the purpose of piloting work and focus
groups.
FOs will spend
approximately 90% of their time in the field and 10% of their time in the
Nairobi office.

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
General
- Be at
work on time and do not miss days
- Work in
non-study areas to test surveys for clarity among respondents
- Take
careful notes in order to improve data collection tools
- Work
with the Project Associate to implement improvements to data collection
tools and methods
Data Collection
- Pilot
questionnaires in outdoor settings and within households
- Facilitate
focus groups in order to refine data collection tools and gather community
opinions
- Take
clear and careful notes during focus groups to record relevant information
- Must be
comfortable surveying individuals and must treat them with the upmost
respect
Qualifications
Required
- Exceptional
skills in English and Kiswahili, both written and spoken
- Experience
collecting data from individuals in crowded settings and within households
- Experience
testing data collection tools to improve their clarity and usefulness
- Ability
to take careful notes while simultaneously conducting questionnaires
- Willingness
to travel within Nairobi and Central Provence
Desired
- Bachelors’
degree or college diploma/certificate
- Experience
with providing feedback to improve and refine data collection tools
