Vacancy in the Ministry of Roads 

Principal Superintending Engineer
 
One (1) Post V/No. 154/2012
(For the Ministry of Transport)
Basic Salary Scale: 
Ksh.77,527 — Ksh.98,942 p.m.
(Job Group’Q’)

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
  • served for a minimum period of three (3) years at the grade of Chief Superintending Engineer (Roads), Job Group ‘P’ or in a comparable position in the wider Public Service;
  • a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or comparable qualification from a recognized university;
  • a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university;
  • been registered by the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya and be a corporate member of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya;
  • attended a Strategic Leadership Development programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks in a recognized Institution;
  • a high degree of professional competence, administrative capacity and leadership qualities required for effective planning, direction, control and co-ordination of technical projects;
  • demonstrated general administrative ability required for direction, control and implementation of civil engineering programmes; and
  • a thorough understanding of national goals, policies and development objectives and the ability to translate them into efficient transport systems, policies and programmes.
Duties and Responsibilities

The Principal Superintending Engineer will be responsible to the Senior Principal Superintendent Engineer.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:
  • being in-charge of supervision of projects in aerodromes, airstrips, seaport, rail, roads and general civil works;
  • development and review of general and specific policies and strategies for the transport sector;
  • studying the social, economic and environmental impacts of transporting systems on the ecosystems;
  • planning, directing, controlling and designing of transportation projects;
  • planning, directing, controlling and monitoring operations of transportation systems;
  • planning, directing and controlling of research, standardization and operation of transport systems; and
  • any other duties relevant to the specialization as may be assigned from time to time.
