Heifer International is seeking a Deputy
Regional Project Director (DRPD) who
will be responsible for planning and implementation of all field activities for
the East Africa Dairy Development (EADD), including project-wide budgeting,
performance management and client/partner relations.
DRPD will partner with the projects’ Director of Finance and
Administration to ensure judicious application of resources to achieve and
exceed set targets.

Responsibilities and functions include, but are not limited to:
- Provide
effective and inspiring leadership, as well stewardship of the project by
being actively involved in all field activities.
- Support
RPD and industry stakeholders envision, crystallize and formulate plans
that will catalyze rapid industry growth by unlocking value of
underutilized producer resources including land and water, cattle, labor
and rapidly expanding urban markets.
- Lead
a high performing team of regional and country managers to next level by
further developing and implementing recruitment, training and retention
strategies
- Partner
with RPD to represent EADD with stakeholders including governments and
government agencies, other non-governmental organizations, educators, and
the private sector.
- Ensure
all project activities operate consistently and ethically within mission
and values of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation project and Heifer
International.
- Prepare
and submit an annual operational budget to RPD and Steering Committee for
approval, manage effectively within approved budget, and report accurately
on progress made and challenges encountered.
- Serve
as internal leader of the organization and coordinate the annual
operations plan and budget.
- Lead
performance management process that measures and evaluates progress
against goals for the project.
- Provide
for all staff a strong day-to-day leadership presence; bridge national and
regional operations and support teamwork among staff.
- Provide
ongoing thought leadership on emerging enterprise and community
development by convening, inspiring and participating in permanent and ad
hoc working groups.
- Support
resource mobilization efforts including proposal development, donor
liaison and partner relations.
- May
perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned.
This position requires:
- Master’s
degree plus 10 years of related experience.
- Minimum
of 5 years’ senior management experience in development and commercial
sectors in Africa.
- Thorough
experience in project design and management, value chain development and
management of consultants.
