Dean of Students

The University with a focus of being a centre of academic excellence wishes to recruit a Dean of students in order to strengthen the students welfare.

The successful candidate will report to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs and will provide administrative support to the university Academic and Administration divisions.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
 
He/She will be responsible for;
  • Overseeing implementation of regulations, policies, guidelines and procedures that govern non-academic matters related to student welfare.
  • Coordination of all matters related to student welfare and advising the Student Welfare Committee and Senate.
  • Sensitization of students on available student support systems such as academic advisory, mentorship, guidance and counseling and health care services among others.
  • Coordination of matters related to student co-curricula activities such as sports, games, drama, music, community outreach programmes, e.t.c.
  • Offering guidance and direction and in enforcing provisions set out in the Mount Kenya University Student Association (MKUSA) constitution
  • Preparation of budgets and work plans relating to student welfare activities and supervise their implementation.
  • Providing the necessary administrative support to students to form and develop professional and social clubs and societies to clubs and societies as well as promote and market the same activities within and outside the University.
  • Formulation, implementation and periodic review of a strategic plan on student welfare.
Qualifications
  • At least a Masters degree.
  • At least 5 years of experience in teaching and/or administration in an institution of Higher Learning.
  • The ideal candidate should be conversant with the running of students affairs in a University or an institution of higher learning.
  • Be of the highest ethical standards, integrity and professionalism.
  • Good inter-personal and communication skills.
  • Team player who can work with minimum supervision.
