The CRS Kenya Country Program recently opened an office in Dadaab which will
provide emergency assistance to refugees and Kenyan communities that have been

Project Officers – WATSAN
(2 positions Ref.2012/17)
Location: Dadaab Office
Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Program Manager - Water and Sanitation, the Officers primary responsibilities will be the implementation and supervision of the water and sanitation response including construction, quality control, field team supervision and activity reports.
S/he will be responsible for implementation of the WASH activities in the Kambioos Refugee Camp and/or with drought affected Kenyans in Dadaab area.
The officers will work in close collaboration with the hygiene promotion teams and will supervise field officers, contractors and community labourers in the installation and operation and management of WASH infrastructure.
Summary of Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Assist
the Program Manager in the planning and design of water and sanitation
projects
- Coordinate
with water supply and sanitation field staff to ensure that the various
aspects of the WASH response are integrated.
- Liaise
with community construction labour teams and leaders and other sectors and
agencies working locally in order to coordinate within the WASH sector and
between sectors.
- Promote
safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH
facilities and services.
- Conduct
formal and informal training with the construction and operation teams of
all water and sanitation infrastructure projects.
- Use
participatory approaches as a far as possible throughout the programme
cycle, in training, and in the use of tool kits and other materials.
- Take
account of gender, protection, HIV, the environment, and other important
cross-cutting concerns in programme design, implementation, and reporting.
Desired Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
- A
Civil Engineering degree or alternative relevant to the Water and
Sanitation sector. Or a lower level qualification with more and relevant
work experience.
- At
least 3 years work experience in the humanitarian sector & working
with local partner agencies.
- Knowledge
of one or more of the following: public health, health or Hygiene
Promotion, community development, education, or community water supply and
sanitation.
- Experience
and understanding of Construction and management of community or local
contractors in relation to water and sanitation activities.
- Sensitivity
to the needs, priorities & culture of different sectors of a
community.
- Fluency
in the language of the affected population, Somali language an added
advantage
- Good
stewardship of resources, high integrity & diplomacy
- Ability
to cultivate constructive relationships and promote learning & work
well in a team in difficult circumstances
- Excellent
verbal and written communication & negotiation skills
