Administrative Secretary Job in Kenya

The Central Organization of Trade Unions, COTU (K), the umbrella workers' national trade unions' centre seeks to employ an individual to fill the position of Administrative Secretary.

The position reports directly to the Secretary General and is based at COTU (K) headquarters, Solidarity Building, Digo Road, Gikomba.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement and maintain sound Human Resource and Administrative strategies and policies to foster modern management culture.
  • Ensure efficient management of Human Resource and administrative functions which include but not limited to: staff recruitment, staff training, performance management, employee relations, staff discipline, staff welfare, reward management, and pension matters.
  • Provide overall supervision of staff both at COTU (K) headquarters and Tom Mboya Labour College (TMLC), Kisumu.
  • Ensure safe custody and ready availability of all records of current and previous staff and elected officials.
  • Oversee computerization of alt file records.
  • Oversee and supervise procurement, transport, assets, utilities and security both at COTU(K) and Tom Mboya Labour College (TMLC).
  • Maintain inventory and asset register at both COTU(K) headquarters' and Tom Mboya Labour College (TMLC).
  • Advice and update the Secretary General on all payments due to members of staff and COTU (K) creditors,
  • Liaise with our social partners offices including handling and directing as appropriate all correspondences addressed to the Secretary General.
  • Liaise with all COTU (K) affiliate trade unions with aim of assisting them setting up administrative units and advising.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Secretary General.
  • Bachelors Degree in a Business related field or Social Sciences
  • Post graduate diploma in Human Resources or CPS (K)
  • Masters Degree in Business Administration or a Business related field will be an added advantage
  • Minimum of five (5) relevant work experience in a senior position
  • Full knowledge of computer packages including the ability to interact at ease with most computer programmes
  • Experience in Industrial Relations Practice
  • Full Knowledge of the Labour laws, Kenya's Constitution and International Labour Organizations (ILO) Conventions
  • Have excellent interpersonal, organizational, strategic and analytical skills
