Save the Children Several Jobs Kenya

1. Child Protection Manager – Various Field Offices
Job Purpose:
The incumbent will manage all aspects of Save the Children’s Child Protection programming in Wajir East and South, Mandera West and Central Districts in North Eastern Kenya and provide leadership and guidance to the programme team while ensuring the quality of child protection programming and adherence to best practice standards for the sector.
Key responsibilities:
•S/He will manage the development and implementation of the Child Protection Programme to ensure all child protection programming is completed on time as per agreed objectives and within approved budgets while ensuring that Child Protection is mainstreamed in all Save the Children Programmes across NEP.
•S/He will liaise with key departments in headquarters on technical issues to ensure adherence to Save the Children best practice approach for child protection in emergencies and oversee and ensure effective budget management through close monitoring and reporting of financial information while ensuring donor compliance as stated in the contractual documents.
•The incumbent will line-manage the four Child Protection Coordinators and also build a strong child protection team within each field office and implement an intensive training and capacity building plan for Child Protection staff, including development of appropriate training manuals.
•S/He will identify opportunities for development of Child Protection programmes where Save the Children is in a position to contribute to child rights and participate in the development of a more comprehensive child protection programme in Kenya through drafting new project proposals and budgets for new activities.
•S/He will also establish a monitoring and evaluation system for the Child Protection programme for timely and effective implementation, appropriate amendment of activities and to assess impact while maintaining an overview of the external child protection context – political, social, economic and humanitarian – highlighting the implications for children.

Person Specification
•Proven experience of managing a child protection programme in a complex emergency context;
•Strong planning and organisational skills to meet programme goals;
•Experience managing the project cycle, including assessments, proposal and report writing, monitoring and evaluation;
•Strong budget management and financial monitoring skills;
•Strong background and experience on child protection issues, including work with at-risk and vulnerable children;
•Solid knowledge base and practical experience in community based child protection approaches, including experience in participatory approaches (PRA/PLA) and child participation methodologies;
•Strong experience and skills in management of staff from different backgrounds;
•Experience in building relationships, fostering interagency coordination and experience of representing an organisation to external parties;
•Strong self starter, able to set up and manage child protection programmes;
•Experience in working in an insecure and politically sensitive environment;
•Willingness to travel frequently, providing equal support across three field sites;
•Experience of implementing the Interagency Database for Unaccompanied and Separated Children;
•Experience of rolling out the Action on the Rights of the Child (ARC) training series and Child Protection Policies within organizational structures;
•Understanding/experience in education programming.
2. Child Protection Coordinator (3 Positions based in Mandera, Wajir East and Wajir South Area Offices)
Job Purpose
Under the supervision of the Child Protection Manager, the incumbent will assist in the management of the Child Protection Programme in ensuring the effective development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Child Protection programme.
The Coordinator will be responsible for field level implementation, inter-district coordination and monitoring of activities as well as providing leadership, guidance and direct management including staff development to other Child Protection Programme personnel.

Key Responsibilities
•S/He will support staff recruitment and training including developing effective systems for supervision and mentoring of staff. Developing network of children and adult community structures and provide relevant inputs for the development of strategic and operational plans made in close collaboration with the Child Protection Manager and partner agencies.
•The incumbent will produce timely progress reports collating reports received from the field sites and represent Save the Children at different forums when necessary, and support and foster coordination on child protection, with government duty bearers and other actors, including NGOs and CBOs while documenting programme learning, ensuring it contributes to organisational advocacy.
•S/He will participate in the development of emergency strategies for the wider child protection programme in Kenya, identify and build links with other programme sectors, ensuring that issues for child protection are raised and addressed.

Person specification
•A holder of graduate degree in social work / social sciences or equivalent with preferably 2 years of work experience in Child protection with development-related organisations;
•Solid knowledge base and practical experience in community based child protection approaches, including experience in participatory approaches (PRA/PLA) and child participation methodologies;
•Demonstrable experience of working on child protection issues in the Kenyan context including knowledge of international and national legislation and policies;
•Strong self-starter with demonstrable ability to adapt to changing programme priorities and emergency priorities that may arise;
•Demonstrable experience in project management with good planning and strategy development skills;
•Positive attitude towards community work with emphasis on the ability to learn from communities and support innovative approaches to problem solving;
•Experience and skills in management of staff from different backgrounds;
•Commitment to Save the Children’s Child Protection Policy;
•Good communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English. Somali language is desirable but not essential;
•Experience of working on child protection issues in complex emergencies;
•Experience of working with separated and unaccompanied children and knowledge of the Inter-agency Guiding Principles;
•Knowledge of and participation in the Action on the Rights of the Child (ARC) training series;
•Understanding/experience in education programming.
3. Training Coordinator (Based in Wajir)
Job Purpose
The incumbent, under the supervision of the Technical Support Manager- Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) will be responsible for planning and delivery of high-quality training of formal health workers and community health workers in Wajir County, through effective liaison with accredited trainers.
Key Responsibilities
•The incumbent will conduct training needs assessment identifying gaps in knowledge and skills of health workers and CHWs, work with master trainers to ensure that training of health workers is appropriate to the needs of the trainees and that each training module is appropriate to the needs of the participants, Take lead in developing/ adopting training modules, manuals, handouts and other materials ensuring their appropriateness to the needs of the target trainees and coordinate the scheduling of trainings and ensure that trainings occur according to pre-agreed training calendar.
•He/she will monitor the effectiveness of training methods and processes and evaluate the outcome of health workers trainings, ensure that delivery of trainings planned in the project proposal is of high quality and meets pre-defined training objectives and outcomes, work with trainers and the DHMT to ensure that all planned trainings adhere to standards including meeting criteria for selection of training participants, use of participatory methods, emphasis on training outcomes, use of evaluations and certification, and effective employment of lessons learned from previous trainings.
•The incumbent will participate in knowledge management processes, including the contributions to project publications and documentation and establish and maintain database of accredited trainers and trainees who qualify from Save the Children supported training programmes.

Person Specification
•Degree in Public Health or equivalent with at least three years of hands-on experience in training Ministry of Health staff and community health workers in an INGO will be an added advantage
•Excellent understanding of the Community Health Strategy
•Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels, taking into account cultural and language difficulties.
•Strong capacity building skills and proven success in training formal and informal health workers
•Strong report writing skills
•Experience of training community health workers in a pastoralist population.
