Position: PHC Coordinator

Summary
CESVI is currently implementing an emergency health program in 5 health
facilities in rural and semi-rural areas of Hiran and Mudug regions of Somalia.
The facilities offer treatment for women, children and adults through funding
from ECHO.Location: Somalia

Summary
The project also offers ambulance services throughout the communities served by the health facilities, patients requiring emergency services are transported to MSF hospitals in Beletwein and Galkayo.
Through funding from UNICEF/ECHO, CESVI implements a nutrition and EPI program in South Mudug in four districts. It’s set to implement health actions for displaced populations within Galkayo town.
CESVI has an operational office in South Galkayo and works closely with Galmudug administration, UN agencies, local communities and other partners
Job Description
PHC Coordinator based in Galkayo
The overall objective of this position is to provide technical support in the implementation of EPI and Integrated Community Case Management (ICCM) programs in South Mudug.
S/he will deputize the project manager and will work with a dedicated team of a health centre supervisor, field officer and logistician.
Key responsibilities
- Training
health workers in line with the EPHS
- To
represent CESVI at coordination meetings with local partners, UN agencies
and other partners and to follow up on agreed activities
- Planning
and organising provision of EPI activities at health facilities and
outreaches through mobile teams
- Supervising,
mentor and work with VHWs in collaboration with UNICEF in the roll out of
Integrated Community Case Management (iCCM) program in remote and often
challenging areas of South Mudug
- Ensuring
accurate data collection, reporting and analysis from project activities
- Developing
efficient community driven disease surveillance and follow up from project
areas and analysis of data
- Training
health staff in case detection and referral system
- Conducting
health assessments and surveys
- Planning,
managing and coordinainge the activities of the mobile teams
- Carrying-out
any other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by the Project Manager.
- Producing
periodic official reports according to project deadlines and donor-related
requests, to be submitted to the Desk Officer for Somalia for editing and
final approval
- Supervising
administration, accounting, procurement, staffing issues related to the
project
Requirements
- Doctor
/Nurse with over 5 years experience in implementation of PHC activities in
Somalia
- Previous
experience in Public health; EPI, community health care programs,
nutrition, hygiene promotion
- Previous
experience working with NGOs/donor funded programmes
- Experience
in capacity building, training and skills building
- Willingness
to travel to remote and volatile areas of Somalia
- Very
enthusiastic and able to work long hours to achieve the objectives of the
programme
- Diplomatic
and an effective communicator at all levels
- Ability
to work in an international or multicultural environment
- Good IT
skills (Windows, Office package and internet).
- Fluency
in English (verbal and written)
Desirable competencies
- Previous
experience working in Somali
- Spoken
and written Somali language
- Experience
in EPHS/SPHERE
- Knowledge
of latest development and technology in health
- Previous
experience with ECHO/UNICEF programmes
