The Girl Child Network (GCN) is a National Network of Organizations working to
improve programming in the children sector through advocating and promoting the
rights of the girl child.
In partnership with Action Aid Kenya and funded by The Big Lottery Fund, GCN is implementing the Stop Violence Against Girls in School (SVAGS) Project in Wenje Division of Tana River District (Kenya) for a period of fifteen months having implemented the project for the last three and a half (3.5) years.
We are therefore seeking to recruit a Field Project Officer who will support the
Project Officer in planning and implementation of the project activities in
Wenje.In partnership with Action Aid Kenya and funded by The Big Lottery Fund, GCN is implementing the Stop Violence Against Girls in School (SVAGS) Project in Wenje Division of Tana River District (Kenya) for a period of fifteen months having implemented the project for the last three and a half (3.5) years.
She/he will be responsible for facilitating implementation of activities that are in tandem with the project goals in and around schools through community level interventions and advocacy.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Community
mobilization and organizing awareness creation forums for the SVAGS
Project
- Enhancing
and strengthening established prevention and response systems on violence
against girls within the schools and community
- Conduct
training needs assessments and organizing appropriate capacity-building
activities for adults and children
- Ensure
regular monitoring of activities implemented to assess progress towards
the project outcomes
- Develop
strategies for influencing practices, structures, systems and policies for
Government, NGOs and GCN members to improve the welfare of children and in
particular the girl child
- Identify
issues affecting girls and make concrete recommendations on enhancing
research and advocacy interventions
- Participate
in networking activities and research activities of project partners,
collaborators, members and development partners
- Establish
and maintain good working relations with key stakeholders in the local
administration and community structures
- Support
community in the uptake and ownership of the key project activities, as
part of the exit strategy of the project.
- Support
the Project Officer in preparation of concept papers for important
lobbying issues for distribution with strategic partners
- Development
of Project reports including activity and progress reports
Qualifications, Skills and Experience Requirements:
- A
first degree in Social Studies, Education or any other relevant field
- At
least 2 years of community work, case work and/or social work within the
NGO sector
- Ability
to mobilize diverse groups of community members
- Experience
in advocacy, partnership-building and networking
- Strong
facilitation skills including familiarity with training participatory
methods and excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Experience
with monitoring and evaluation and capacity to produce quality, timely
reports
- Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills with significant experience of
working with children
- Commitment
to human/children’s rights and an understanding of rights-based approaches
- Ability
to effectively manage time.
