Program Officer and PMTCT District Coordinator Jobs in Kenya

ICAP of Columbia University is working in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation and the Ministry of Medical Services to strengthen HIV Care and Treatment services at provincial and district health facilities.

This program is part of a US Government initiative against HIV in Kenya that receives funding from PEPFAR through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Applications are invited for the positions of Program Officer and PMTCT District Coordinator

Location: Resident with frequent travel within Eastern Province

1. Program Officer

Overall Job Function:
 The officer will plan and perform day-to-day implementation of HIV care and TB/HIV treatment services at facilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning and implementation of HIV care and treatment services and TB/HIV activities at facilities
  • Provide on-going supervision of HIV care and treatment and TB/HIV programs
  • Co-ordinate mentorship of facility staff
  • Participate in quality assurance/quality improvement of HIV and TB/HIV programs
  • Assist in program monitoring and evaluation
  • Preparation of budgets, work plans, reports and other technical papers
Requirements
  • MB ChB, or Diploma in Medicine
  • At least 3 years experience in program planning
  • Experience with HIV/AIDS programming
  • Familiarity with district-level health care programs in Kenya
  • Clinical experience of HIV medicine
  • Strong supervisory and management skills
  • Ability to work independently with strong problem-solving skills
  • Team player with good verbal and written communication skills
2. PMTCT District Coordinator

Overall Job Function:

The Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) District Coordinators will oversee the day-to-day planning and implementation of PMTCT activities within ICAP-supported facilities in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation.

S/he will supervise Nurse Counselors providing PMTCT services at the ICAP-supported facilities within the district and will report to the PMTCT Advisor.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide day-to-day technical support and supervision of the district PMTCT Program as per national guidelines
  • Assist with training of health care workers using the national PMTCT curriculum
  • Strengthen referrals and linkages between PMTCT activities and the Comprehensive Care Clinics
  • Oversee Early Infant Diagnosis, care and follow-up of HIV-exposed infants
  • Strengthen linkages between PMTCT, follow-up of HIV-exposed infants (HEI) and Comprehensive Care Clinics
  • Assist in the implementation of the monitoring and evaluation for PMTCT and HEI
  • Participate in district PMTCT meetings
Requirements:
  • Registered Nurse or Registered Clinical Officer
  • More than 3 years experience in the implementation of PMTCT activities
  • Experience in training and mentorship of health care workers on PMTCT
