The SOS Children's Villages Kenya is an SOS Children's Villages Kenya is an affiliate of SOS - International whose mission is to build families for children in need, help them shape their own futures and share in the development of their communities.

In Kenya, the organization runs five Children's villages in Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret and Meru and Kisumu and an Emergency Relief Program in Marsabit.

SOS Children's Villages Kenya provides infrastructure in terms of education and health and families strengthening programs for families living in the local communities.

SOS Children's Villages Kenya wishes to recruit a suitably-qualified person to take up the position of Deputy National Director to be based at the National Office in Nairobi, Kenya and reporting to the National Director.

Position summary

The Deputy National Director/Head of Programs supports the National Director in the implementation of SOS CVs Programs, development of new program and the implementation of quality assurance systems within the framework of the SOS Children's Village Programmes QM Approach, including management of the Emergency Relief Programs.

The DND/HP provides support in successfully managing technical, programmatic and contractual obligations of the program department with overall responsibility for the development of all new programs, preparation of proposals, monitoring and evaluation and preparation of timely reports to donors.

He/She is responsible for Coordinating the development and review of SOS Children's Villages Kenya strategic plan with a key role in capacity development of program staff.

Key Tasks and responsibilities

  • Co-leads the strategic and annual planning process of the National Association and provide support to SOS CV programs in the preparation of operational plans
  • Lead processes of national child rights situation analyses and feasibility studies.
  • Oversee all activities within the National Association ensuring it operate in accordance with the organisation's statutes, policies and procedures.
  • Development of new program locations and alignment of existing locations following the SOS CV Program Policy.
  • Implementation of the Quality Assurance system (including monitoring and evaluation) as described in manuals and policies of SOS.
  • Coordination of all research activities in the program development area and cooperation with governmental and non-governmental organizations carrying out research on child and family care.
  • Participating in and/or initiating national initiatives aiming at improving conditions and changing policies and practices that undermine the well-being and rights of children.
Job Profile
  • Masters degree in relevant field
  • At least 7 years experience in programming at a senior management level in the NGO sector
  • Expertise in implementing Quality Management / Monitoring & Evaluation Systems
  • Proper understanding of Child rights, child development, family & Community development issues.
  • Ability to guide strategy development, manage multiple programs in terms of context and locations.
  • Proven expertise in proposal development, donor report writing and budgeting
