As part of strengthening the operations of
Youth Alive! Kenya we seek to recruit a suitable young person to join our
impressive team of professionals as a Project
Assistant-Counseling.
Working under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer, Health the position entails supporting the direct implementation of project activities specifically counselling within 6 target institutions in Nairobi and Kiambu Districts.
The engagement is for an initial three months with possibility of extension.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Spearhead
the provision of counselling services to children within the project
- Support
the implementation of all direct activities within the institution with a
special emphasis on provision of health and life skills education within
the partner institution
- Ensure
the establishment and maintenance of ethical cognitive and psychosocial
support systems within the partner institutions
- Conduct
ongoing monitoring and periodic evaluation of the institutional
psychosocial support systems recommending remedial/corrective action
- In
consultation with relevant governmental authorities and other stakeholders
assist in the identification of critical elements for the effective
psychosocial support systems as well as in the documentation of the same
- Under
the guidance of the programme officer assist in the development of all
technical information strategies and materials necessary to undertake
project trainings and drive project activities
- Mobilize
community groups and other relevant stakeholders to actively participate
in the project processes
- Support
the reintegration of children into their communities by conducting family
tracing, mediation and follow up
- Any
other duty that you may be called upon to execute from time to time
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Must
be between the ages of 25 and 30 years;
- Must
be a certified counsellor from an accredited institution of higher
learning
- Must
have demonstrated experience in counselling. Experience in counselling
children in difficult circumstances is an added advantage
- Must
have a strong disposition to and experience in working with disadvantaged
children and youth
- Training
and/or experience in Public Health and/or Social Work will be an added
advantage
- Must
have excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills with
fluency in English;
- Must
be a team player with the ability to work with others to achieve high
goals in a fast paced and culturally diverse environment;
- Must
be a self-starter with ambition who can work independently and handle
multiple priorities and deadlines;
- Must
be an outstanding role model for young people, of unquestionable integrity
and high ethical standards
