VSO Jitolee is a member of the VSO federation based in Nairobi with an East African regional mandate to promote volunteerism and recruit skilled professionals from Kenya and Uganda to serve as volunteers in VSO programmes in 44 countries in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean.

In addition we contribute to Kenya’s national development working with local partners in the areas of disability, secure livelihoods and health.

At VSO Jitolee, we believe that people are the best agents of change and in this role we are looking to you to lead in the development, management and delivery of a Diaspora Volunteering project within the International Volunteering programme.

VSO Jitolee is initiating a project aimed at supporting professionals from Ethiopian, Sudanese and Rwandan Diaspora communities living in Kenya and Uganda, to volunteer in their countries of heritage.

As the Diaspora Volunteering Project Coordinator, your role will involve developing a qualitative report on target diaspora communities in Kenya and Uganda and establishing a network of key diaspora community contacts that will be essential to deliver the project.

In addition to carrying out research, you will develop marketing strategies to attract diaspora volunteers, raise the profile of VSO Jitolee in the diaspora communities and share learning with VSO programmes in the region.

A competent project manager, you will have more than three years experience in programme or project management in the development context.

You will have demonstrated skills in market research, and an understanding of recruitment processes and the labour market in the region.

Your experience of partnership building and networking with relevant stakeholders at community, national and regional levels will be key to your success. Excellent ability in the use of ICT, capacity to manage knowledge and resources effectively, team working and commitment will also be critical for your success.

Knowledge and experience of volunteering as well as knowledge of the French language are desirable for this role.

The initial contract will be for a period of one year.
