Regional Services Manager Job in Kenya

The organization

Finlays is Kenya’s largest agricultural export group employing 22,000 people and annually exporting 400 million stems of flowers, 7 million kilos of vegetables, 26 million kilos of black tea and 3 million kilos of tea extract.

Location

The position is based at our Mt Kenya Region operations located at the outskirts of Nanyuki Town where we have two main farms employing 2,000 people and having the associated infrastructure required for the production of flowers and vegetables.

The Job

Reporting to the Regional General Manager, the person will work as an integral part of the team in order to plan and supply mechanical, electrical, and other plant and equipment maintenance services efficiently to achieve optimum plant availability and planned production that ensures smooth and profitable operations.

The key result areas are to:
  • plan & prepare departmental budgets, organize and coordinate cost estimates, execution of new projects and ensure that such projects are completed within time and budget;
  • ensure that the vehicle fleet are maintained and serviced, tyres managed well to guarantee efficient transport system for the region;
  • ensure the construction and maintenance of greenhouses, related civil engineering, plumbing works and polythene replacement for the efficient production of cut flowers and vegetables for export;
  • coordinate operations of all tractor, trailers and implements, including service and maintenance;
  • coordinate all aspects of lorries, trailers, tyres maintenance, service and licensing;
  • ensure efficient operations of all pumps, spray stations and fertigation stations;
  • maintain Company houses;
  • carry out all civil engineering jobs i.e. maintenance of all structures, new buildings, surveying, drainage, and wet land construction;
  • maintain all cold stores, repair roads, carry out heating trials and boiler maintenance;
  • purchase spares and materials required e.g. polythene, control the re-roofing of all greenhouses;
  • manage personnel within the department through daily meetings with all artisans covering mechanical, operations, maintenance, electrical, plumbing, concreting, greenhouses and carpentry;
  • handle costing and operations of all new projects and expansions; and
  • control the many jobs done by contractors.
The person

The ideal candidate must possess the qualifications / competencies outlined below.
  • Ten years demonstrable senior engineering & managerial experience, devising and implementing business relevant maintenance strategy, preferably within a large company.
  • Depth of skill and experience should ensure that sound people, line management and functional competence can be taken for granted;
  • Self driven, reliant and motivated, being energetic and positive in outlook with hands on approach to see things through to completion;
  • Highly numerate and computer literate;
  • Experience in handling and planning across a multi-site operation with good project management and preferably lean manufacturing knowledge;
  • Able to structure a plan, marshal resources, work as a team and deliver on commitments;
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills: persuasive and with the gravitas to gain senior management confidence; and
  • Should be an engineering graduate with senior level farm engineering experience being an advantage.
